Reef PI and Google SMTP

Maybe I'm late to the party on this one... But I just noticed that Reef-PI recently stopped sending me email alerts. I think this is because Google recenlty dropped support for unsecure apps:

Less secure apps & your Google Account - Google Account Help

Starting January 2025, less secure apps, third-party apps, or devices that have you sign in with only your username and password will no longer be supported for Google Workspace accounts. For exact

support.google.com

Any chance that Reef-PI will support Google's smtp servers in the future? If not, any recommendations for a free, hosted smtp server that will work with Reef-PI?

Can you try using app password as specified in the official document: https://learn.adafruit.com/reef-pi-...on/testing#alert-setup-and-test-email-3000687 ?

I'm having same issue. This is the third build of reef pi and never had the gmail issue. I've followed the instructions regrading app password, I've even set up new two new email address (from and to) specifically for this build but I still can't get any notifications.
Am I missing something? I don't get any error messages when I hit test button.
Any pointers or workarounds would be appreciated

Thanks for replying Ranjib.
No log errors at all, I've tried different email addresses and combination of 'to' and 'from' addresses, I've tried turning two step authentication off on my Gmail account but still no test emails.
Ive tried with two new outlook accounts as well, changing the smtp etc. And get the same result...No test email. I'm completely out of ideas.

Today I thought I'd have another bash at getting emails to work.....still no joy

I am getting error message now though so hopefully this might help
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Did you guys ever figure out a fix for this ? getting the same error. tried using aim and msn and not working. Seems like gmail killed the ability for reefpi to access it.

- Go to your gmail account settings
- Go to the security page
- Under signing in enable 2 factor authentication (if its not already on)
- Go back to security page. A new option for app sign in will appear.
- Generate a 16 digit app password
- Enter the 16 digit password with no spaces into reefpi telemetry section
- Hit update, then go to the admin page to "reload" reefpi
- Now go back to telemetry page and try a test message...should work

Reef Pi Gmail mail issues

I just noticed I stopped receiving alerts from reef pi a while back. I did not have time to look into it and not finally had some time. All my credentials are unchanged even entered them again to be sure and its giving me bad credentials when it tries to send a test message, I was reading and it...
