Reef-Pi The All In One Pi Challenge

Thanks for everyone's help the doser is now calibrated and up and running! I know my corals will love this addition. I need to come up with a box as well as some connectors. Then I can get this full setup properly. I need to do the ATO but the power has been going out so much due to storms that I cant 3d print mounts for it. I need to also get the PH sensor and Mars Aqua controllers from @Michael Lane .
 
Float switches have been extended but how should I wire two of them such that one is a backup if one fails to turn off the ato?

That depends on the switches.
If they are normally open and close to run the ATO, they would be wired in parallel, so that if either one or the other closes then it turns off the ATO.

If they are normally closed, and open to run the ATO, they should be wired in series, so that if either one or the other opens, it turns off the ATO

Can you give me a wiring diagram for each? I am not sure what either of those means.

Ok...normally closed means the switch is closed and rising water would make it open.

Normally open means the switch is open and rising water would make it close...
 
These look like they are normally open based on your product link.

Here's a simple example of series (one after the other) vs parallel (split path).

Well, today I received all of the connectors and I successfully Shocked the **** out of myself and blew up pin number 5 on the perma pronto hat and maybe the pi too. the whole install for the connectors went very well and I have some interesting connections such as an RJ45 ethernet/ phone cable to two 3.5mm 3 pin jacks. I also installed the ato float sensors and am confused as to how to make them work for my needs. my current ato pump only runs for a couple of seconds at a time and with the new controls and check frequency it seems like it has to stay on until the next check. @Ranjib is there any way to make the checks on the float sensor quicker like 3 seconds when it is triggered so it doesn't overflow my whole sump after filling for 120 seconds? I suppose if not I will need to get a much much slower pump and even then have a valve so it is slower. Is there a practical limit as to how fast the checks can be without crashing the pi?

You're not supposed to test the connections with your tongue! Glad you're ok. As for the Pi, I'm guessing you smoked it. Whatever the case, I would just replace it to be on the safe side. After all, you are going to have it running everything and I believe another $25 is a small price to pay for peace of mind. Just my $.02

Nah not going to replace it lol. All it did was literally smoke the small circet connection bon that pin. All others work well.
 
Having some scattered issues with the temperature sensor as it fails to read and sometimes works and other times not what is the cause of this error?

Yeah, absolutely you can configure the ato sensors to poll at 3 or 5 seconds.

I am not sure at this point as I have been gone for so long but I can explain it.

I cut the end of the RJ-45/ ethernet/phone cable off and connected the outer 2 wires to 12v and the other 4 to the ULN2803 0-3 pins. The ULN2803 was also hooked up to 12v and ground on the opposite end. Then the ULN2803 was hooked up to the PCA. It was super easy and quick no need to d0 anything inside of the Jeabo.
 
I have upgraded to 3.0.0-pre-alpha-2 and re-setup everything as well as installed the PH board (no probe yet) and prepared to install the light controllers (no connectors yet).

Only a few problems arose today while working on this.

1. Deleting the database deletes your settings and not just the history of temperature and ato usage and such.
2. Installing the PH board on 2.3 will crash your reef pi (don't do this :D)
3. The labeling on the PH board is backward and is supposed to be as follows (glad I asked Michael as I probably would have fried the Pi...)

4. The Mars Aqua controllers will daisy chain but the cable is backward :D good thing Michael told me this first :d

5. 5 pin Micro XLR connectors are super nice and connect securely but extraordinarily small to solder.
