Reef plumbing disaster!!

In no way should you spend another penny purchasing supplies if they agreed to deliver that and plumb it. The parts aren't all that expensive. I will say though that for $150 IF everything including delivery was included that's not a bad deal. They really need to make good on this.

Yea... I'm trying to get ahold of the store owner. I talked to the guy that came out and he said he would come back when he was in the area and long as I supplied the parts. I feel taken advantage of.. cuz i fit that image of "stupid girl that knows nothing about this" lol.

Any store owner with any business sense should quickly make that right.

A single repeat customer is worth far more than that, trips to the LFS get spendy in a hurry. :D

Im sure NakiFantaki just wants to be up and running..... lol, might have to chalk it up as a loss and do not give them any more of your biz. Put your story on Yelp if they dont respond... Then take your pump to Home Depot and play in the PVC isle.... Its ***** fun.... lol

I would contact the LFS owner or manager and let them know that the guy didn't finish the install. If you paid $150 for them to do the plumbing they should have hooked everything up and made sure it was all working. Just my opinion.
RIGHT ON1 Don't be afraid to demand what was already promised to you.

Believe it or not, If you can explain what you want to do, someone at Home Depot can probably help. If you can draw a picture, that's even better. No, I don't work for them.

I owned a business(not aquarium related). I charged $125 for service calls just to show up. Not sure if it was a misunderstanding or if your LFS ripped you off. I personally feel you were over charged and did not get what you needed. Some stores have made their place in the market and can charge twice what other stores charge and still have a line out the door. However plumbing is easy and cheap. I would be glad to help. If I am not mistaken your pump has a barb fitting. Normally a piece of flexible tubing used at the end connecting to the pump helps with sound and vibration. I work Friday but I am off this weekend and can walk you through this. I would go to Ace Hardware. It is more likely to get someone who knows what they are talking about. This is one of my aquariums I plumbed last month.

Don't let all the valves confuse you. Most where not needed. I wanted to have it ready for expansion if needed. PM me. With a few pictures and text ,we can get this done.

Open the box to the pump. There are normally more than one size fitting that is included. I would run my return with 3/4" pvc. Find a barb fitting to 3/4 that is the same size barb ad the pump. Use a couple of 90's to have it run to your return. You don't need valves because that is a dc pump and you can regulate flow through the speed of the pump. Get a pvc cutter. It should be under $10. it makes easy and clean cuts. If you have two returns just put in a T. Make sure the return line do not stick down to far in the tank. When the pump shuts off it will start a siphon. The over flow I think is plumbed to the bottom of the tank. Just figure out what size pipe it is. Should be 1" or bigger. Run that down to the sump. I like valves on the over flow so you can regulate the flow. The best this is that 10 foot of pipe is only $5. If you mess up a cut, throw it to the side and cut another piece. As far as glue, any pvc glue will work. I personally use the blue. This is low pressure. I don't use primer with the blue and never had it leak.

Awesome! This is what I needed!! Can I PM you with some picture?

I have that pump. The threads are 1". I am not a fan of the barb fittings that come with the pump. The barb is stepped so you can decide what size return line to use. You would cut off the smaller ends to fit your tubing. Do you know of a local reef club in vegas? You may be able to find a local reef forum and I'm sure someone would come over to help. Is your father close? Father's Day is coming and us Dad's like to feel needed. If the LFS won't make good on it for you, any one here would be willing to walk you through it, the best we could, over the phone, but much easier to explain things in person. Learning to do this would be a good thing but since you're dealing with water, you don't want to come home to a floor full of water.

The rippled tubing is spa tubing. The black tubing is pond tubing. The spa tubing can be glued into fittings. The pond tubing slips over barbed fittings and is secured with reef safe clamps.

Thanks!!! No Dad here [emoji53] He's up above looking down.. and probably laughing at me. He was a pool guy who build and repaired swimming pools.. lol.

There is a local reef club but all of them members are really in with the same LFS and I just don't want to burn any bridges.

Do I have to use the barbed fittings on that return?

My plan was to go with regular PVC as it's cheap and easy to find. I called around to find some of the spa flex in town and no one carried it.

Ideally I just need a SIMPLE setup. Something coming off the return and then into the check valve with unions.. and then I to the bottom of the tank in the overflow. And then i need something to go down from the durso at the bottom of the tank into the sump/filter sock.

I am building my sump right now and hope to have the glass baffles built in this weekend. It's a 29 gallon tank that I only plan to have about 15 gallons of actual water in.

I'm sorry to hear that.

No, you don't have to go with barbed fittings but it is the simplest connection.
I used a 1" threaded union to attach to my pump. Zoom in to see my pump. I hard plumbed my system.

If you want to hard plumb your system it would take some practice with glue, pipe, and fittings to get used to the process before doing it for the tank. My suggestion would be barbed fitting. I don't know why but most LFS don't carry plumbing. It would make sense to carry parts not common at the big box stores. We have good local options for plumbing in SD. I use Harrington industrial plastic for spears valves. Here's your local office.

This is a PDF of spears sch 40 fittings.
I would keep working with your LFS I can't imagine they would leave you high and dry.

My suggestion: find a friendly local reefer -- which you can probably do on this board. I think most of the experienced people on R2R are passionate about the hobby and you can probably find one willing to come by and help you set it up. It'll be worth its weight in gold to be able to see it all come together with someone experienced.

And get your $150 back.

Thanks for all your help!!!

Are you are to take a close up picture of that connection at the pump? I would like to hard plumb if possible. And what is the name of the part/adapter?

Everything I see either says slip or thread.. which one do I need?

I'm going to go to Home Depot and take my pumb and play around with some fittings tomorrow.

I will reach out to the reef club on Facebook that I belong too and ask for help. As for the $150 bucks... they did deliver the tank and glue in the durso. But.. that's it. And I acutally paid an extra $60 for a check valve and a loc line...
As much as I'm frustrated with the loss of the money I really just want the help to get it done ya know? I have contacted the store owner via Facebook and also contacted the store via Facebook. I called the store and I'm told that the owner is on vacation.
