Going to start adding a daily reef poll to the forum and would like to get your idea for poll topics/questions.

What's some things you would like to "poll the audience" about?

Lights- color, kelvin, best growth settings, schedules, run time

Nutrients- levels, testing, dosing, export methods, alk relationship

Foods- fish, coral, frozen, pellet, feeding frequency, feeding corals, amino dosing
 
Coral placement, tank size, cycle time, light height, what we feed, water change times per week, month.
 
Not sure the best way to do it but...

salt mix preference vs years in the hobby

to see if the preferences change/are different for folks with, say, 0-1 year, 2-5 y and 5+ years experience
 
-Preferred QT method
-Bare bottom vs different sand depths
-Led v T5 v MH (maybe a secondary with preferred brands?)
-Turbulent v laminar flow
-Stocking Densities
-Skimmer size in relation to tank
-Distance traveled to favorite LFS

Equipment failure fail safes, tank upgrades, fish, corals, and specific feeding regiments.( like for breeding, coral or fish health related) The site has a lot to offer! Just doing a short search you can find many answers.

Feeding strategies
  • Types of food (frozen, fresh, flakes, pellets ...)
  • How do you measure food (grams, by eye, by size ...)
  • What is your favorite measurement/sign to tell if you're feeding the appropriate amount (grams per gallon, grams per fish, parameters, some other formula ...)
  • Use an automatic feeder for any of all feeding

Yes, that might be of benefit to people trying to select new equipment. But what would the evaluation framework look like? Or would it just be user "comfort"?

Absolutely would be based on user preference. Would have to rely on someone/something like BRS to do an in-depth analysis of each product. Still would be an excellent resource for newbies looking for brands.
 
I am a newbie, give me info! 10 days to my "get wet" date. More info Please! Sounds like a plan - lets see what the Administrator thinks.

- Hours for Lighting (How Many, Ramp Time)
- Display Tank vs Sump Lighting Schedule
- Type of Light for Sump
 
Not sure if comercial awards would be a nice thing to include in this "family" forum.
Sure that there are members, highly active that seams are supporting certain brands and that receive material for testing without a clear evidence of a non-commercial relation.
IMO i choose a reef2reef forum happy as so far.
