Quite the selection. I also see a good amount of flower anemones. I’m thinking of adding 5 at the same time to my IM10. Should a see a spike or rapid decrease in any parameter?

I do have a number of flower anemones. I stopped counting a while back.
Parameter - not anything I would know off. They do not use much if any of Alk or calcium. Amino acid may be beneficial.

Beyond that, regular spot feeding will be beneficial for their survival. They do shrink if not given enough food based on my own observation across two tanks that I have which house flower anemones. The additional feeding may impact your nitrate level so I would monitor that.

Reef Flux Observation

Nearly half-way through reef flux treatment, I have been regularly testing for ALK (every other day almost) and have noticed an observation.

• The tank has not been consuming as much ALK as previous weeks.

Daily dosing of All For Reef has been 3-4ml. Since treatment, I had to reduced it down to 1.5ml and only today have I bumped it back up to 2ml after testing. For days last week, ALK reading were hovering about or slightly above 10 dkh. Normaly I keep closer to 9.

These numbers are not a huge deal but is something to be mindful of so that i don't overdose for weeks on end.

One of the rock flower anemone got tired of the tank and tried to crawl out of the tank!

It tried with the help on the "snail" bus...

A Challenging Dilemma - Suggestions needed.

How I can contain or slightly kill a piece of the Green Pavona (as pictured below) from taking over a section of the rock structure? I do not want to complete kill the whole piece...only enough so it does not spread much beyond the island it's on.

As you can see, it has already stung a number of it's neighbor and slowly taking over.

There are about 3-4 small pieces that I can easily frag but at this point i do not have much room for additional frags within the tank. I can put several frag pieces against the back wall potentially. Or can can just review the center piece which could slow growth down and place that piece again the back wall.

Thoughts / Ideas?

Wow 2 months since last update...

Let's start with not so nice stuff:

• Just found out I lost the wrasse after I got back from a business trip this past weekend. Currently MIA; no body to be found after water change.
• Still fighting red hair algae. Using manual removal at this point. You can see the red hair algae in the pic below.

• Aiptasia - has a little outbreak. I am looking to take action in the coming weeks with Berghia Nudibranch.
• I believe I finally figured out what has been slowing killing my blasto. FREAKING EMERALD CRABS!
  • How I came to that conclusion? I removed the 2-3 emerald crabs I had put in a while back to fight bubble algae. After removal of the crabs....Blasto stopped dying. Since crabs are gone, I stopped seeing any blasto dying. So freaking tick me off....​

Outside of those items above, tank has been making nice waves

• RFA has been making a come back. For a while I eased up on the feeding and that caused a number of them to suffer it seems. Now I try to feed them 1-2 times a week ( this also also led to an outbreak in aiptasia unfortunately as both are anemones after all)

• Growth across the board has been good for both SPS and LPS.

The emerald crabs are savages mine ate an entire maxima clam in one night so he has since been banished to my sump.

Wrasse - I am not holding out any hope for it unfortunately. It's a 20G tank and I had cleaned it pretty good days ago and there is not many places to hide.

Filtration Cover Relief...Before and After

Just received something I wanting to do myself for some time since it has been a gap imo. Luckily my procrastination attempt paid off this time . InTank recently release the filtration cover for the tank. This imo will help with the algae that typically grow behind the back of the tank if it's not covered.

BEFORE: The following is the procrastination cover attempt before (noticed the shiny bling cooking foil cover )

Out of the box, it looks decent enough. The material is not rigid as I would like. If you have used one of their filtration basket (not the one for Fusion 20) before, it's of similar material and will do the job.

Now I have just put this on without any modification to just get a feel and will be looking to make adjustments to the unit to suit my needs. With the material the way it is, it's easy to cut into the cover for any additional holes you may need. Out of the box it already has a number of pre-cut holes that could be used. For me I am thinking I will need to additional holes for airflow.

What do you think?

I get the concept but it's kind of odd looking to me. You have to take off to check your equipment. How does it stay on ?

yes you do need to remove the unit to check what is behind. yes it does not exactly look like a perfect clean fit. this has a similar look like the red sea aquarium max nano.

how it fit is based on the small niche at the bottom and it's own weight. it's not the cleanest fit but it does seem to work for what it is intended. the ideal would have been for IM to include something like this as part of the overall tank design similar to RS max nano.

Minor update with two new additions from today...

Overall the tank is going well and growth continues.

• The red algae issues are slowly starting to be under control and receding. Besides excess feeding, regular husbandry, I believe it may be related to older RO filter that needed replacing.
• Even though it's a little tight on space, I did manage to add two additional unique corals today.

Last update for 2019

The following video was taken during today's feeding. Overall the tank has done reasonable well in 2019. Growth is going strong. Over crowding is a bit of an issue. Similar to the other tank, acropora stability is bit of an issue. I have a number of SPS growing on the back wall at this point to give additional color. I also have been fragging a number simple SPS corals (except acro) to keep growth down. Will be looking to sell frags back to LFS soon. I have not added anything new for sometime and will maintain tank for another 6 months until the move.

Better color with white light compare to more blue imo...

SInce it's a holiday today, I had a chance to view the tank just a few hours after the lights turned on. Typically I come back from work way late and it's mostly on blue around that time. A few shots in less blue lighting.

how did you get the frags to stick to the back glass ive tried 3 different frags a million times in everyway possible including superglue, putty, a sandwich of both etc and cant get any to stick!

Thank you for the compliment. our reef tank is definitely the jewel box of the ocean imo.

sticking to the back of glass - try Gorilla Super Glue Gel. Gel is the key. Be a little generous when you use it. once I stick the piece on the glass, I usually twist the piece back and forth for the glue to get a grip and just hold it it there for less than a minute and it will set. sometimes I do have a add a little more glue gel after the first try.

note...the challenge will be if you had to pull the frag off the wall at some later point. it may be easier if you leave a small section of the frag unglued so that you are able to get a knife or something flat and just pry off the frag assuming the frag does not grow over it too much.
