Thought would I share my latest simple nano tank of mostly soft corals. The tank was setup rather last minute because I had ordered too many corals the week before, had no place for the new inhabitants. The tank cycling/acclimatization period was almost non-existent. Luckily I was able to leverage existing live rocks from my LFS, biomedia plates from my other nano tank that was teaming with life, and water from existing tanks to get everything running. So far everything is beginning to settled in.

Started: Late October 2018

Tank: Waterbox Cube 10

Equipments:
  • Neptune Systems ApexEL Controller
  • Lighting - Kessil A80 Tuna Blue
  • Filtration - IM Auqa Gadget CustomCaddy (1st chamber with filter pads + carbon)
  • Filtration - Marinepure Ceramic Biomedia Plate (2nd chamber)
  • Wave Pump - EcoTech MarineVorTech MP10wQD
  • Return Pump - standard OTB return pump
  • ATO - XP Aqua Duetto hooked up to 2.5G container water topoff
  • Heater - Cobalt Aquatics 50W Neo-Therm Heater
Inhabitants - Corals:
  • Flower anemones
  • Ricordea mushroom
  • Zoanthid
  • Australian Heliofungia (will have to move to another tank once it's ready as this thing is a huge piece and it's loving it here)
  • Ora Setosa Montipora
Inhabitants - Fish:
  • 1 Frostbite clown (this guy came from my other tank)
  • 3 Greenbanded Goby
Inhabitants - Inverts:
  • Trochus, Cerith and Nassarius snails

Looks great! The aquascape is very interesting. Nice job on the transfer.

Thanks NY_Caveman. The interesting aquascape was all driven by a mad dash to get things in place honestly. Two large pieces of already ready live rocks...bam...done! :D

On a more serious note, I do plan to redo the aquascape slightly within a month or two once things semi-settle down. Not all flow anemones have found their spot; plus i need to pull out the Heliofungia once the other tank is ready corals.

Latest update...

  • Over the past few weeks I have moved a number of frags from the EVO over to make room
  • I had also moved the heliofungia to the Fusion20v2 tank to make room for some yuma mushroom
  • At this point there is mostly zoas, flower anemomes and mushroom. The only exceptions are the Setosa and blood orange leptoseris.
I have a few more zoa frags to move over in the coming weeks and then will just let everything sit and grow out and hopefully it will fill in the missing spaces. Besides that the only addition I am thinking is to add 24K leptoseris to the back wall for color; however I am waiting to see how the blood orange leptoseris does first before fragging the 24K leposeris and moving it over to here.

A few pics of the tank from various perspective. I really like how this tank has come together given it was rather a last minute setup to start off with.

Stunning tank and photographs.

Thank you. This is basically my night light in the bedroom. It's lite from 7pm - 3am..u know to keep the monsters away at night o_O

LOL. Monsters, like Krakens.

Media Basket Swap!

The tank has been running with IM media basket. Today I swapped it our for InTank chamber one media basket. The IM media basket has worked good for me with a slight modification as can been seen below. The reason I am trying this is to leverage the limited space. IM media basket is much smaller. With the extra space, I add 1 additional biomedia cube for bacteria growth. May be overkill for 10G tank.

Here are few pics of it. It was a simple swap. The only additional item that needed to be done was to remove the socket brackets.

Observation: The material on this media basket is different than others I already have from InTank or IM. It's a little less rigid and the middle tray is not as adjustable compare to other trays. I don't think it'll have any impact install or performance; just thought I mention it out.

Unidentified Life Form!

The following video clips were from yesterday. I saw this happening within the tank by accident as I was heading to sleep. Out of the blue, the tank had hundreds if not close to a thousand of these little life forms swimming in the upper column of the tank. Never have I seen them in the tank before last night. Not sure if these are the same copepods i put in months back or not. I have no idea what they were trying to do. Spawning? Eating? Just amazing the life forms within our tank.

WOW, love the rock nems! Overall impressive! You sir have inspired me!
Thank you. Rock anemones are one of my top like corals.

Ironically just before I responded to your message, I just spotted a new baby rock anemone just by chance. I got really excite to see my 3rd baby rock anemones so far (at least those I can spot). I had wondered how many baby rock anemones I have lost due to water pump, filters and water change. Just glad to see a very limited number were able to stick onto something and survive.

Below is the new baby I just spotted. The other is one I have been feeding for months and had started the similar size when I first saw it. The 3rd baby anemone is in between these two size and but I can't take a pic because it's behind some rocks.

These are from my Reef-RC IM Fusion 20 Nano tank.

Newly spotted baby rock anemone.

3-4 months old rock anemone I think. Can't remember when I first spotted it.

Additional MP10WQD

For the past 2 years I had a spare EcoTech MP10QD replacement driver sitting in storage. I finally dusted off the controller and add the missing pieces to make it a typical MP10WQD pump. To do this I had to purchase VORTECH MP10QD WET SIDE ASSEMBLY + RF Module + rubber spacer + Dry-side assembly for MP10. A quick 10 minute assembly and it was operational.

The additional MP10 for the 10G is an overkill but I have been pondering on this for some time as I feel more random water movement is needed without blasting the corals directly. Waterbox 10G out of the box has a small pump and due to the default plumbing, I can not add a bigger pump without modifying the return area. I did not want to bother with that and so I added MP10 for it's versatility for small tank size like this. I am setting this up on anti-sync mode which basically run opposite of the other pump.

This past Monday I took the opportunity during my work "lunch break" ;) to move the WB10 to it's new location (stand and all). The move was relatively painless and made me realized how much of pain this is :D. So much gears and stuff goes into our reef tanks that it's not clear how much until I had to start disassembling it. This is just a 10G tank.

The tank has been back up and running for the passed 2 days and so far so good. Next up will to re-arrange the aquascape a bit more now that things are settling back in.
