Reef roids and clams

As my first I must agree lol
I tried putting it in lower flow but it didn’t like it too much. Right now the mantle will flop up vertically and it doesn’t budge a muscle

Great lil Squamosa, I picked up mine about 15 months ago and a tiny 2" at best ORA

. Now a bit over 3" and it along with my 4 maxima's have really taken off after I started feeding Benereef Coral food

I forgot to add that I placed a 2" travertine tile underneath and almost immediately attached to it.

Didn’t think they needed to be attached to anything?
I don't know if they "need" to be attached, but they certainly can and seem to be more secure and orientate themselves to their own liking. Two of the four Maximas have already severed their basal thread and are content to just be there... lol

In the past this really freaked me out, finding what almost looked like a degrading scallop next to a clam or being torn apart and eaten by the fish and clean up crew.

They exponentially grow faster as they get larger... faster from 4 to 6 inches than they are from 2 to 4... at least in my experience. At about 8-9 inches, they slow down for me, but never stop growing. Probably nothing that you feed them will help much... but it won't hurt anything either. The particle size has to be perfect. They can get nutrition from ammonia, nitrate and several other sources that the food will break down into if it does not get eaten. Light is their main food in captivity.

I gave up on the feeding it idea. I add a few drops of phytoplankton once a week in the tank and it can suck up some LRS from the water column the rest of the time :D
P.S. I think it’s still under 3”

Now that I think about it, when our squamosa hit 10" the excurrent siphon was way shorter than it was when we got the clam at 3". Never paid to much attention.
