Has anyone prepared a run book for their system?
The premise being to outline normal operation, levels, etc in case someone else needs to take care of teh system, and more importantly, pre-plan and record emergency procedures, so that during a stressful event you have a plan that can be executed - bonus points if it is practiced beforehand to be sure it will function as expected. Think of it like a DR/BC plan for your reef.
I am working on one for our system and would love the opportunity to collaborate if anyone has done it before. I am always afraid there is something I am forgetting.
Ideally, when all is said and done, anyone should be able to manage day-to-day and emergency operation of my system if I am away for a few days or even an extended period.
I have chapters covering equipment, livestock, normal operation (how things look, sound, and function when things are "right"), standard operating procedures (feeding, filter maintenance, water change, ato, etc.), and emergency procedures.
Also included is contact information of a local reefer, a few LFS, and poison control. There is a forward that talks about the risks of bacteria, nematocysts, palytoxin, etc. as well as safety precautions that should be taken.
I am looking for input or examples from others who may have written a run book for their system or at least have thought about it before.
