I'm not sure what I've spent on my soft corals fragging kit but I'm pretty sure more than I'd care to calculate.

What can I use for rust prevention after washing with RODI? Coconut oil?

Food grade H1 silicone grease spray? We use silicone on o-rings in the hobby

I'd use it for storage but give a rinse/wipe before use.

This is what I use. Easy, unless you let rust build up, then it takes some elbow grease.

Yoshihiro TSOIL 100% Pure Tsubaki Japanese Knife Maintenance Oil With Complimentary Sabitori Rust Eraser, 3.4 oz, Large, Golden Yellow

Not one I've heard of. Seems like a good candidate.

How carefully do you wash your tools before use?

I have been using this for years.

After use, I rinse the tools in rodi and then wipe them down with the oil before I put them away. If any rust forms then I apply a drop of oil and rub it away with the eraser.

I use the same kit for my Japanese knives. They never complain.

Edit: I do not wash them prior to use.

Do you ever submerge your tools in the tank without rinsing the too first? For instance to like cut an SPS or LPS frag off?

Yes, every time they go right into the tank without rinsing. I am sure that is not the best practice, but I do not see a problem with it.

I do not see it as any different than oil from fish food like mysis and pellets.

Great thank you for the info. One more thing. How long does it mess up your skimmer foam production?

I have not noticed any effect on the skimmer. Probably due to the minimal amount being added. Kind of like just putting your arm in the tank.

I have no trouble just rinsing well in tapwater and drying with a cloth. Once i started storing them in seperate area than my tanks not had rust issues with that approach..
