I want to put some exotic looking fish in my reef tank like tang, angle, puffer etc. You know what I mean. But the problem is that all these fish are not reef safe. Can anyone recommend some beautiful looking fish for a reef tank or what you may have that doesn't hurt you corals.

for a 30 gallon tank, you will be limited to the fish you can have.

I would look at the fairy wrasse group...

most of the exotic/colorful fish require larger tanks...meaning 100 gallons are larger

But if I had a larger tank those fish still aren't reef safe right? I've seen them in reef tanks many times so that's why I'm confused.

a 30 gallon would not serve any of those fish justice. that would be brutal to be stuck in a 30 gal as tang or puffer.....I would look at clowns, gobies, or possibly a wrasse

I have two clowns . I like the way they look and move but I agree with you you guys saying its too small for some fish.

Depending on the corals you have in your tank, a puffer from the Genus Canthigaster would be suitable in a 30g. But they may pick on fleshy brain corals such as lobos, wellsos, and acans, and they will pick at clams, and dusters. If you dont have these one may be well suited for your tank. They have a ton of personality, and are significantly more peaceful than other puffers.

As everyone else says, the larger fish won't work. I have a larger tank, and I don't put any large fish in because a lot of times they ruin the coral or your aqua scape by bumping into it. I honestly love the look of wrasses, clowns, and firefish. You get a lot of activity from them, and the colors are amazing.

i agree with you guys. I really like the character of those types of fish. my clowns have a lot of character but my cardinal fish lacks it. I just want something that I can enjoy looking at and something with that aww that looks pretty.

You have a nice set of options for a 30 gallon tank. You could choose a blue spot jawfish, any of the designer clownfish pairs out there, several species of brightly colored wrasses, and the list goes on. There are even a few dwarf angelfish you could try, that are very colorful. Tangs, large angels and those guys are out ... but there are a lot of great fish, suitable for a 30 gallon aquarium.

Thats a great list to start with. Thanks
