So I'm considering building a frag tank out of plywood getting my inspiration from the king of diy on YouTube. His tank was freshwater and had a glass front. However I was thinking of doing a lowboy with no glass. A more utilitarian build. Anyway he uses a coating called pondarmour for the inside of the tank. I'm curious if there's anything better suited for saltwater applications or if pondarmour is the go-to coating. I would especially be interested in a transparent coating to give the inside a epoxied "cold molded wood" look like is used in boat building. But obviously health of the tank comes first and I'm not sure the epoxies used for boat building would be durable enough and not leach into the water. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated

Also here is the video I'm talking about if it helps

There are quite a few epoxies that will work. If you are really serious about a plywood build you should check out monsterfishkeepers.com. That said, it doesn't really make sense financially on small builds. If you are just looking for a fun project then that's a different story.

Yeah absolutely it's more of a I'm bored situation as well as I want a frag system lol... I definitely check that site out thanks for the tip. Plus if it's a realistic idea to have clear epoxies in the tank I could pot some real nice veneers all over it, maybe even some brass fittings and handles. I think it would be a pretty cool tank. As long as it's just as functional and reef safe as a glass tank.

I'm pretty sure west system and Sweetwater epoxies can be done clean. I'm going to use something called max acr off ebay for my plywood build, which can also be clear.

I was just reading about the acr lol... And apparently Sweetwater isn't made anymore. West systems makes some real high end products that's typically the go to for boat building. I may have to shoot them a email and see if they have a answer about potential leaching. I'm sure that's a odd question for them but it's worth a shot

Ahh good to know. All of those have been used with out any leaching issues. Here is a construction slide show of Max ACR.

That is a cool freaking idea.... I kinda need a frag tank but if I do build a wood tank here soon I may have to steal this idea

A buddy of mine built one of those kayak kits with wood and epoxy... He ended up just hanging it up because he doesn't want to mess it up lol... Looks amazing
