Bought an emerald crab, he's not like others I've had, what is he? Claws look flat, no hair on him like others.

Looks like Emerald. may have unusual growth or characteristics

I’m willing to bet it is a species of Porcelain Crab which is reef safe. However, if you are hesitant and are having second thoughts about purchasing this crab or any other invert, you need to go with your gut feeling. Not all crabs, snails, Sea Stars etc. are reef safe! It isn’t an Emerald crab because the carapace is different. Plus Emerald crabs don’t have the long whisker on each side but Porcelain crabs do.

Unfortunately he's already drip acclimated, i netted him and then saw that he is different than advertised. I think he may be a porcelain crab, never had one, do they eat bubble algae?

They do not eat bubble algae! They mainly filter feed on phyto and zooplankton but will occasionally accept other foods stuff that they can catch like frozen mysis and brine shrimp, clam and other meaty fare.
