To all of my reefer friends, be care when moving live rock around in aquarium! This past week I re-scaped my aquarium and I suffered a very minor cut on my index finger As I have done dozens of times over the past 5-6 years. Only this time was different. What seemed to be a very minor scape turned into an infection! The first first night it became irritated and the next day my finger was double in size. The surrounding wound turned black and was very painful. I decided to go and see my doctor who referred me to a hand surgeon. Upon seeing the infection the surgeon told me that I needed surgery and possibly even a second surgery. The injury occurred on Sunday night and I was operated on Thursday morning. Luckily, I don't need second surgery.

Wishing you a quick and full recovery, @Mattyice.
Did the surgeon mention the pathogen involved in the infection? I've had a few bad scrapes but nothing like you are describing. Thanks for the warning!

And a belated, Welcome to Reef2Reef.

Wow! I am sorry to hear about your challenges and am glad to hear that it isn't any more serious. I hope that you will recover quickly from this point - let us know how it goes. This is a great reminder - thank you. Also, welcome to the posting side of R2R but next time you don't need to wait for anything so dramatic to jump in!

He did not say. I didn’t really bother to ask lol I just wanted the problem gone. He says he has treated the same infection, same scenario and everything multiple times. He says it’s a good thing I came when I did. I’ve attached a photo of what it looked like the day after and right before surgery.
