Having a new tank built that will come with a Reef Savvy overflow box,, my plan for the new tank was to put a gate valve between my Eco Tech M1 return pump and my return lines ,, I still think this is the best way to do it ,, that being said,, I have never used this type of a overflow box :) All of the You Tube Videos that I have seen of this overflow box ,, everyone using this box has a gate valve mounted into the main drain line from the overflow box to the sump tank ,, the way I understand it ,, this box has 3 return lines ,, the main drain line ,, a back up line and yet another back up line. Also ,, what size of PVC pipe is used on these lines?

I would not use a gate valve to adjust flow of the return pump just use the controller to slow it down.

The gate valve on the drain is used to adjust the full siphon which you will need to do to get it to run quite.

Look at this on the Bean Animal Drain.

Yeah the gate valve goes on full siphon for fine adjustment. Do not put a gate on your return because that will just cause unneeded back pressure on your pump that will lead to an untimely death.

That is not true for an AC pump
That is true, Good call. But who uses those things now a days?

Disclaimer: The prior comment was meant to be a light hearted joke not a AC/DC battle. While the band is great, the debate is not. This offer only valid in the continental US, batteries not included.
