Hey everyone! Figured it was time to put my reef build on the forum, so here goes nothing!

50 Gallon tank w/ a Sapphire 26 sump

Apex Controller w/ PH, Temp, ORP, & Salinity probes, high water shutoff
Eshopps PF-800 Overflow
Neptune DOS for Calcium and Alk
Neptune Cor 15 Pump at 55% currently...
Bubble-Magus Curve 5 Skimmer
Kessil AP700 for DT
Kessil H80 for Refugium
Maxspect Gyre XF330 Powerhead

Overall about 50lbs of cultured liverock from my local LFS went into this from the start, 10 of which was covered in Green Mushrooms, Kenya Tree, and Xenia. Also added about 30 lbs of live sand. I started with two hang-on filters w/ biowheels but quickly bit the bullet and switched to a sump. I had no idea what I was doing with the sump which is why I tried filters first, but the more I researched the more I realized that was a mistake. Point taken: research first, setup second!

Started my livestock out with 6 Chromis, which did swimmingly (no pun intended).

As they became established, I added cleanup crew in form of hermits, snails, and an algae blenny. Added some frogspawn coral and a brain coral, as well as a long tentacle anemone to prepare for clowns. Then cycled the aquarium a bit more, changed to a sump and got that up and running, re-cycled (lost one Chromis), added chaeto to refugium with the Kessil grow light. Then this week I added 3 Heniochus Butterflyfish and a pair of Black Ice Clownfish. Also added a sand sifting starfish this morning. Tank params are looking excellent, testing every other day. I have been testing different foods but mainly using a cube of frozen mysis a day. I also took advantage of the @CherryCorals sale last weekend and went a little crazy, so they are in as of Monday and I am working to find some permanent homes :)

Overall Livestock Currently:
5 Blue-Green Chromis
1 Algae Blenny
3 Heniochus Butterflyfish
2 Black Ice Clownfish
1 Long Tentacle Anemone
1 Sand Sifting Starfish

Overall Corals:
1 Kenya Tree Colony (+ 5 new frags dropped this week)
1 Xenia Colony
1 Brian Coral (neon green)
1 Green Mushroom Colony
1 Chili Pepper Monti
1 Awesome Aussie Micro
1 Red Velvet Leptoseris
1 Blue Bottle Brush
1 Atomik Green Humilis
1 Dark Valley Maze Brain
1 Stargazer Zoanthid (5 polyps)

Let me know what you think! Always open to constructive criticism since most everyone here knows much more than I do! Some pics to follow

Nice start of the build thread - good work!

Updating my thread since it’s about that time!

First off, I won an Apex system from @CherryCorals which was pretty awesome! Unfortunately i already had one, so an LFS nearby traded it for a Trident and a few other things. Score!

Everything is flourishing, although i can’t seem to find somewhere that my frogspawn enjoys... I’ve moved him toward the bottom trying to get him out of high currents.
In some of the recent sales, I added some corals which are doing really well. I have a Zoa frag that has practically doubled in a few weeks.

Re: livestock, I added a yellow tang that i plan to move to a bigger tank when it comes to that time. Also added a diamondback goby.

Photos below... One rock in particular has had hair algae on it from day one, I am almost thinking i should just replace it and throw that one down in the refugium...

Although it may be that i haven’t been using RO water  i am looking at buying a system today, any RO opinions from apartment dwellers??
