Reef tank cycle with live rock from another tank?

Hey everyone, I have finally set up and am running my 125 gallon future reef tank w/ 40 gallon sump (upgrading from 60 gallon reef) . I am in the cycling phase now (Tank has been running for a week) and here is what Im doing, I used all new live sand, all new water, and 50 pounds of new dry rock and nitrifying bacteria. Over the past few day I have been adding live rock from my other established tank into the new tank (about 30lbs so far), all parameters are good as of now, I am wondering how long I should wait until I transfer all of my fish and coral to the new tank?? What do you guys think??

The default answer is to wait until you detect an ammonia spike and it resolves itself down to zero.

Are you testing for ammonia?

Are you adding an ammonia source? (food, ammonia, shrimp, etc).

I have been testing for ammonia and feeding a few pellets a day. No ammonia yet

Well, like I said, the only way to tell for sure is if you force a spike (1ppm should be fine) and see how long it takes to drop. If it takes more than 24 hours, I'd wait a week and retest.

You can force a spike by throwing a raw shrimp in there, or doing to math and adding straight (unscented, plain) ammonia...

Question for you, I seen your awesome tank build it looks great. How long did you wait until you transferred all of your inhabitants from your other tank?? Thats what im trying to figure out? Thanks.
