Is there a reef tank kit you can buy for use as a frag tank that won’t break the bank?

New? You could do something like this. Add a light and a small power head if more flow is needed.

That's an awesome kit, I suppose no need for a sump on a frag tank, too bad no one has any in stock

You could always just buy a small tank kit at Petsmart/Petco and set it up as a frag tank. You don't have to use a sump, you could just use a HOB for filtration as you won't have a bunch of fish adding a crazy bio-load to the tank. I had a small tank (29 Gal), Aquaclear 70 HOB filter, and 2 Hydor Powerheads on a tank with fish and coral and it worked out fine. I think with just coral you could definitely get away with a cheap set-up like that. Especially when those stores do their $1 per gallon sales. You may even be able to find a great deal now before Christmas. I bet you could get everything for very close to $100.

There’s nothing magical about a sump. Any tank would be fine without one. There are definitely benefits to sumps... It helps to give you more space for filtration that’s hidden and out of the way. It also adds more water to the system, which can help with stability. But you can certainly have a successful tank without one.

What do you all suggest for a light fixture, I have no experience with anything but T5's. I think light is where Id likely half to spend a chunk of cash

Most AIO (all in one kits will give you the convenience of tank and sump like filtration to contain and maintain frags efficiently

This Kit any good, put out enough light for SPS?
