So I wanted to get some ideas from people about what they do with their tanks when they're not plotting, purchasing or learning about their tanks. For example every month I gave myself a budget for the tank, and by the end of the month I've run out money for the tank, but I still want to work on it, improve it etc... The title for the thread implies that normally buying something is the way we'd play outdoors, so just metaphorically speaking, what does everyone do when they can't spend money?

So let's hear some free or nearly free things you do with your tanks to improve or maintain them.

For example I did a really good clean today, even cleaned the outside and did my alkalinity test. I love just watching it, and just observing it after the cleaning makes me grateful for what I have.

I pretty much enjoy all aspects of this hobby, even the maintanence stuff. The best part is actually getting to sit down and see what's going on. I have a mesoscope, so looking through it provides hours and hours of more stuff to look at. You think you know what something really looks like, until you are eye to eye with it. :D
