Hey all sincere apologize if this has already been covered but what is best reef temps i have my heater set at 26c which is about 75f but to me its feels rather cool i appreciate were not wanting to cook the fish or coral and if thats the best temps to keep them an happy just wanting some advice i suppose thanks

26 C is actually 78.8 F and that is just fine. The majority of folks I know here in the States keep their tank at 78F (25.6C)

I have been trying to dial in my heater to keep my tank at 78... Currently it is running at about 78.8.. I have a small digital heater that I use in my water station that is set at 78 and it actually keeps the water at 78!! I am thinking of getting a few of those for my tanks. Since IME more money doesn't necessarily mean a "better" heater, I would rather buy an inexpensive digital one that is easy to set than fiddle with a pricier one that I will ultimately replace in a year or so anyway.

that#s a fair comment my heater is not an expensive its on i have had for a few year its a hidom i bought the tank before xmas and to my surprise it never had a heater good job i had a few sitting

I think @Ben Pedersen goes to about 73f in winter if I recall correctly. I run mine high 79-80f. I always hear about somthing like 78f as the "norm"

My understanding is that it's really related to metabolism and people use colder temps for safety as it takes longer for specific metabolic functions to occur at lower temps giving you more time to recover.

I am currently running a Fish Only setup in my 55G as I am working on my 180 getting it ready for water. The fish seem happy and active and I haven't had any issues with the temp being a tad high.

I have a coral "starter pack" that is due to arrive this Friday so I am actually working now on bringing the temp down a bit. I would like it to be at 77.5*.

My research shows most people here run about 78*

Time out....

You need to know at what depth the majority of your corals thrive at.

Shallow water corals - 78
Deeper water corals - 75-76

I think that's is why most people aim for 77 to 78... In the ocean, there can be layers. In the home aquarium that is decidedly harder to achieve.
