Im looking into getting a test kit for my reef tanks but I've never had one before, If anyone has any recommendations ill be happy to hear them! Also, what are the parameters you wanna test/look for in a reef setup?

Good advice above. I too use Hanna checkers for alk and phosphates, and Salifert for Ca, Mg, nitrate

Hanna makes three different checkers for phosphate, most people use the ultra low range phosporous version, model HI736.

You’ll want to test these parameters in a reef. And I’ll list what I am using. I hate color charts so I go with Hannah checkers whenever possible .

Alkalinity - Hannah dkh checker

Calcium - Red Sea pro for accuracy , Hannah checker for ease of use.

Magnesium - salifert

Nitrate - Red Sea pro

Phosphate - Hannah ulr phosphate checker . Make sure you get the ULR for phosphate

I don’t test ammonia , nitrite once I’m done with cycling unless I’m troubleshooting issues . I use API in this case.
