So I'm sure we are all familiar with Wikipedia.

In my opinion Wikipedia is amazing, and the troves of knowledge stored within are just cool. The concept is that anyone can go in and create articles within the wiki, and those articles are scrutinized by other users.

Other interest groups, such as pokemon, have created wikis to store the collective knowledge on their group. Why has this not been done with reef related information?

Right now the knowledge of reef is deposited mostly in discussion forums like RC, which is a freekin ***** to navigate and find answers. If poster into a wiki, the info would be much more organized.

It would be a freeking mess to administer such a website, an it would be hard to get the word out as RC for example would quash any mention of it... I find it annoying that I must go to DRfs to find info on fish species, especially as I do not trust them because they have some different motivations. Having a resource that is more neutral would be amazing, and it could have details on everything that is easy to find.

Heck, even concepts developed by individuals, such as "playing with your ppe" could be documented using a wiki.

The only drawback (benifit?) would be that the thing would not be so interactive as a forum, but who cares? Sometimes organization > interaction

Anybody interested in helping to setup reefpedia? =X

I am a dork.. Didn't bother looking as I had not heard of it before.

Reefpedia.com exists, however it is pretty barebones as of now. It has great potential IMHO to become an invaluable resource depending on how it is operated

well. some graphic design major kids in my school created something called RISDpedia (school name + pedia), concentrating on sharing information about the art community. didn't do so well because the idea was limited. i think we should ditch the name "____ + pedia" because that only hints that the site is a shadow of the original site, wikipedia. ZoaID, in a sense, is alot like wikipedia, except exclusively for zoas. melevsreef.com is like that too, with lots of information. i'd be interested if you want to make it more organized and easier to search info on general reef hobby
