I just measured my salt water mix and the dkh was 13 and calcium was 500 it was reefcrystals....I have measured another bucket before with the same results....my question is how do your corals react when you add 13dkh to a 8dkh tank...I try to keep my alk at 8-9 tops...and my calcium at 400-430..
I done 3 small wc's yesterday that way they wouldn't freak out!

Did u check for Mg? When I was using RC when I tested a batch I got 1050 Mg reading, also too many people having a black looking residue in their mixing tanks made me change salts, now I'm using TM.

also I didn't check the mag but I definately will when I get home...TM is the closest salt mix to what I currently keep my tank at!

How big are the WCs you're doing Joe? How big would it be in one foul swoop (rather than 3 small)?

I run my tank at 7-8dKH and use RCs right now... even while doing ~10% WCs the Alk doesn't budge.

In my case I have found both ReefCrystals and Instant Ocean to have low pH, alk, and calcium. Never high though! I supplement my water with Brightwell Ca, Mg, etc. before using it. I will try Brightwell's salt next when I run out of RC!
