Welcome to R2R!

If the overflow is behaving, it is super quiet. Right now if I stand with my ear to the top of the tank the loudest thing is the Kessils. In the dead of night, you would likely hear the skimmer/return pumps/etc more. I could hear Gyres across the room as they ramped up and down for example.

At times the overflow needs to be fiddled with. If you find yourself doing that constantly you can replace it with a gate valve. Otherwise it will make noise from time to time (read 4AM :p). Its actually something i strongly recommend anyways.

Edit: Wow I made little sense lol

If you have a good pump, and the valve is properly adjusted they are dead silent. Now if you are running a noisy skimmer or something you may hear that.

Any system will have some amount of noise or no system will be dead silent. I kind of like the noise. White noise will help you sleep. Look, people pay good money for a white noise generator. You get one as a bonus for free. Additionally, the sounds or absence of them make for good indicators when something is not running correctly.

Best bet is to go all DC pumps and wavemakers. Any DT or refugium lights should have huge heat sinks and be passively cooled.
Bean animal style overflow, soundproof insulation lining the inside of the stand, finely tuned, high-end valves, fish that don't jump or splash....

OR get one of these.. you won't hear a thing from the tank
