Reefer 250 Build

Just add a Marine Pure or Brightwell brick in the sump. Works better than live rock anyways.

Decided to add more rock, about 12lbs to display and 3 lbs or so to sump. It gives me a lot more real estate and stays with original theme, seems to keep good flow as well. A lot more shelf space which will be nice in the future when adding corals.

Curious on other's thoughts though on updated scape.

Thanks!

Looking good so far! Definitely following along, as I just got my Reefer 250 yesterday. Excited to see how yours progresses : )

I've got a RSR 250 also. Just started my build thread yesterday. Started tank December 2016.

How do you like your Nyos skimmer? I've read they're really quiet. $500 bucks though if I'm not mistaken. What's the footprint on the 120 if you don't mind telling me?

I'll have to check out your thread! I like the skimmer so far, its quiet and does have a smaller footprint in the sump. I'll see if I can measure it but think it's diameter is about 8". It's also $400 online at a few retailers.

I have a Skimz recirculating running external and it's kinda loud. But it's not in the house it's down in the man cave--farm shop. I'm feeding it off my return manifold which has a slow dripping leak. Gotta take it apart and add some more Teflon tape.

Yep. Tried to reuse MP10 this weekend to bump up flow and it was abject failure. Wouldn't stay attached.
Mp10 on My reefer 250 on back glass no issues at all.Just need to make sure wet side and dry side are in perfect alignment.

When you first filled your tank, what kind of water did you use? Did you just RO/DI water and mix with sea salt to get 1.025?

I like how you set up the rock. Fish can go over, under, through, and around it. That's how I would want mine set up when I pull the trigger.

I did pre-mixed from LFS. They use RO/DI. It was pricey but not a huge difference in buying RO/DI and then mixing myself. And a lot less work haha

I feel ya. How are you liking the lights? Can you compare those Hydras to the Radion you have (or the XR30W Pro if you've tried it)? I ask because I can really go all-out on one more item and I am debating between a Nyos 120 and the Radion XR30W Pro. Really has to be one or the other, so wondering which piece of equipment has better alternatives. For what it's worth, I put a high value on how dead silent the Nyos supposedly is.

The radion I have is the freshwater version and don't have experience using with corals yet. So far I like the look of the hydras and simplicity of set up. 2 pucks in a small foot print like the radion xr15 too, but with additional puck. I think where radion is far ahead is the programming UI. The Hydra doesn't seem to have as many program options, but provides you what you need to customize settings. I dont like how your only option to turn the hydras on is through the app. The app rarely works for me first time and I have to do all kinds of troubleshooting to get the lights to connect. Hoping this is fixed in time with firmware updates. Also won't be a problem once I have a set schedule for the lights. Set it and leave it most likely.

Nyos i love because keeps the whole system relatively quiet. I live in a studio loft, high ceilings and wood floor that echos. Needed this system to be silent and the skimmer definitely is.

Ah so you're like me. I'm in a 670 sq. ft. 1 bedroom in Manhattan, so limited on space. The 250 would be the largest I think I can get and of course silence is great with such limited space. Maybe that is more important than Radion lighting...

Great looking scape! You can always add to your scape later, small islands for zoa gardens and such. Im following.
