So I am upgrading from nano to a little larger tank , a red sea reefer 250. I really haven't had to by a bigger skimmer in forever. What is everyone using for skimmers now a days? And any suggestions for a skimmer that would fit the sump of a reefer 250 would be awesome...

One other questions when i buy a skimmer is there like a minimum water level for most skimmers. What I mean is I know I have to worry about size restraints but do i have to worry about water level in the sump being high enough or should any skimmer work?
Thanks

I am sure you will get many opinions but my best advice is to get one with the pump outside of the body. I do find they just work better and even BRS when asked between Omega 180 or 150 they will tell you to go with the 150 as it out performs the 180. Much has to do with the water volume taken up by the pump and contact time between the bubbles and the water. Omega ( Vertex ) I just used as an example and the main point being pump outside of skimmer if you have the room, that being said don't be swayed by going to a smaller unit if pump is outside.

I heard bubble magnus isn't a bad skimmer and with this sales price it is hard to turn down.. what do you guys think?

Bubble magus skimmers are good. I prefer it to my eshopps premiere. Very quiet in comparison as well.

I’m not sure about the skimmer. I really like my Aquamaxx skimmers and my sca-301 on my cube is doing awesome.

This would be a backup :-) price maybe too good to pass on.

I have a BM skimmer and I like it. Only issue I had was the rated water level is no where near what it actually was. I had to put a 2” stand under mine so that it didn’t just flush water all day.
