Reefer 250 V3 Sump Spears Valve Upgrade

I have a Red Sea Reefer 250 with the new V3 Sump, so the overflow pipe is routed differently than the previous sump design (Shown Below). I'm having issues keeping the water level consistent in the overflow box with the red sea flow valve. So I would like to replace the red sea valve with a Spears Gate valve like most do. My question is has anyone cut the red sea valve out and replaced it with the spears valve on a V3 sump? I would like to leave the rest of the plumbing as is.

Can I tell you the what the solution for me was - patience in dialing in and a DC controllable pump. I shut the valve all the way and then quickly open up around a quarter of a turn. I then turn my return pump on 100%. I Then wait for a while for things to level out. If it is going into the emergency overflow, I then turn down the pump a bit. I find that the Red Sea valve can be tricky but, it is far more adjustable and fine-tune-able than most .

yeah, I can get it dialed in perfect but it doesn't seem to hold there. Over the course of a day or so without touching anything else the water level in the overflow box will fluctuate. Everything I've read online suggests that it is the design of the red sea valve that is at fault. Everyone seems to replace with a spears gate valve and the issue goes away...

I completely understand. I've had the issue happen before on my 250 - I got a warranty replacement and the issue went away. I haven't had the issue on my 170 as of yet. Try contacting customer service and see what they can offer - you will find they stand behind their product 100%.

@Aquageek450 Did you ever find a solution to getting your water level consistent? If not, I just swapped out my Red Sea diaphragm valve for a Spears gate valve on my 250. I have the original sump, but the same concept should apply to you as well for the newer sump layout.

Hey there - just wondering if you ever made the swap to a spears valve on your V3 or if you ever managed to get it stable using the stock valve? I just got my 250 V3 wet and I can dial the valve in, but within a day it's fluctuated quite a bit. It also seems to vary depending on sump return chamber water level (I haven't hooked up the ATO yet so it's pretty noticable).
