So I have been contemplating what tank to get. Recently got into the addiction 3 months ago with a standard 29. It didn't take long to decide I'm going for broke. Lol. So I decided on the Red Sea Reefer 350. Was wondering what you guys think of my anticipated equipment list? Any suggestions? Here it goes....

Reefer 350
Kessil ap700
Bubble Magnus Curve 5
Nero 5 power head x2
Jaebo dct6000

Was thinking about an apex but decided against it at the moment because lights and Nero's are controllable already so I figured I'd wait.

So, am I missing anything? Any suggestions? Want to make sure I'm doing it right. Never spent 4000 bucks on a hobby. Lol

Thanks for reading!

I think the curve 5 may be a bit too small for your tank, depending on what kind of bio load you are planning. I would go for a skimmer with a bit more capacity.

In your list I didn't see a heater or cooler, something to consider depending on your location. Also an algae reactor and a rollermat filter could be interesting maybe. What would also be advisable is a small reactor to be able to run gfo or carbon if necessary.

Good luck !

Do I need an algae reactor if the reefer series comes now with the v3 sump which has a five compartment? Also instead of reactors can't I just use the media racks or cups in sump? I have a heater already. If I need to I will buy a new one. Heater is least of my worries as in the long run it's cheap to just buy the best compared to everything else. Lol

I had a Vertex Omega 150 but it was loud.. I ended up getting a Bubble Magnus Curve 7 for my Reefer 350.. get the 7 not the 5. It’s a more appropriate size.
I will look into it. I had just seen the 5 seemed to be what most had and recommend in their build question threads.

Do I need a chiller if I'm going with led instead of mh?

Also, is the regular 7 ok or do I need to get the elite? Quite a difference in price.

They’re all going to work - get what fits your budget and build theme if you have one.
Yeah. But if I can make my life(and parameters) better by spending a little extra now, I will do it. Just was trying to not have to buy a 400 dollar skimmer if so many have had success with something cheaper. Hahaha.

If you want to make your life easier, I would suggest focusing money on a controller or better test kits than a skimmer. Most skimmers are roughly the same.
Will having an apex really make things easier? The kessil is fully controllable, as is the Nero's and return pump. What would an apex do for me if I do not have a doser?

Redundancy, error reporting, salinity and ph monitoring etc. you don’t necessarily need a controller.. but my point is the benefits are greater on those types of products than differences between skimmers.

Gotcha. Thank you for all your input. I appreciate it.

I just started a Reefer 350 build too. If you’re going to use the refugium you end up with a max of about 14” for a heater (or 2 for backup). After a bunch of reading and YouTube videos I decided to get 2 underpowered heaters that together can heat the tank since the “full powered” ones I liked were all too long to fit

What two heaters did you go with. Good to know.
