Currently planning a Reefer 350 build in the coming months, but can't settle on the flow. It looks like 2 MP 40s are the standard answer, which is completely acceptable. What I'm wondering is if there an advantage to having 2 MP10s on each side, with an additional 2 on the back glass? I like the fact that Vortechs in general create a pulling flow from the bottom of the tank, so putting two on the back glass would likely help with detritus transport from the back side of the aquascape. Also, BRS is backordered on MP40s but has MP10s in stock. Any thoughts/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

No it’s not. I have two mp10’s on my 350. I’ve had them on the back and sides with no problems.
Ecotech website says max glass thickness for mp10 is .375 inches and reefer 350 is 1/2 inches. I am just going by what on the website.

I have 2 MP40s on my reefer 350 and run them at 45% or so.

I also read that the glass is too thick for mp10s but I guess folks are reporting it works.
Are you happy with the flow setup or would you change it? If you had to start over would you still choose the 2 MP40s?

Its my first reef tank so take it for what it’s worth but yes... I like them quite a bit.

the main things I like are

1) I have an apex so programming them is nice and easy with the wxm module

2) they’re easy to clean as you can just pop off the wet side and not worry about any wires

3) I’m happy at 40-45% so there’s headroom in case I need more flow.

4) the “inside the tank” size is pretty small.

the only con I see is the lumps on the outside. Some find that ugly & I mostly forget they’re there. But, ya, there’s no hiding those

I’m setting up a new coral QT and chose an mp10 over the Nero 5 for pretty much the reasons outlined above.

I have a single mp10 in my Reefer 170, and it ramps to 40% or so.

i think you’d be ok with two of either, but the 40 will give you more peak flow if you need it, and can always be turned down

Do you just have the two mp10s? How is the flow?
Yes, just the 2 mp10s on the ends plus the return flow split into two with loc-line. I use the Coral Lab WWC flow settings which alternates between reef crest and constant modes throughout the day. The mp10s are controlled by my Apex.
