I have been away from the hobby for the past 8 years and am trying to get back in. I am currently setting up a mixed reef Red Sea Reefer 350, in the future I may switch to a more SPS heavy system. I am about to order 2 MP40, would this be too much flow for a 75gal tank?

I am also running a mixed reef in a 350. I currently run 2 cheap power heads with a 140gph rating and one 100 gph rated pump. I think 2 mp 40s is a little much. I would use 2 mp 10s

I think it’s perfect. I’ve been using mp40’s and 60’s for many years.

Glass thickness is right on the edge of what the mp-10 is rated for on the sides of the RSR-350. You will not be able to use them on the back glass, as it is too thick. If cost were no issue, I would go for the mp-40 and run them at less than max.

Should be good. I have Reefer 250, running two mp40s at 55-60% each. Great flow, patterns and plenty of power in reserve. Will be good for Reefer 350.

Do you have the MP40's placed on the ends of the aquarium or on the back?

Rock work determines flow needs, but I'd say it's not enough. I have a 90 gallon with four MP40's and an MP10. Realize I'm a believer that there is no such thing as too much flow.

Do you have sand in your tank. I can't run mine all the way it creates a sand storm

Yes, I have sand and the Vortech's have moved it to high and low areas. I also don't run at 100 percent, and for the most part, the powerheads are up high in the tank. Here's their placement (and you can see the high and low sand areas).

I have 2x mp40 and 2x gyre on my Reefer. No dead spot I love it.

I have a reefer 250. I run 1 MP40 on the right side (50%), 1 MP40 (45%) on the back left side and 1 MP10 (60%) on the back right side.

If you're going SPS, in particular, acropora dominate, two MP40s is okay, but rock scape and acro growth would determine if you need more later on.
