Hi all,

I've got a reefer 425xl, came home from work and noticed a really loud gurgling noise coming from the overflow area.

Looking into it I can see that the water level in the weir has dropped considerably and turning the gate valve doesn't seem to adjust the level anymore.

Anyone got any ideas on what the issue could be?

* Return pump seems fine (vectra l1 .. 70%), its even been restarted and the issue remains.

* Not got a fancy manifold just some plumbing which connects to the return line.

* Tank has been running fine for years with no issues

* no visible leak and ato has been working fine

* nothing visible that would inhibit water going down it

* turning off the skimmer to raise the available water "a little" just raises the level in the return section rather than the level of the weir.

I half thought maybe something was gunked up or a snail got somewhere it shouldn't have but if either of those were true I'd have expected the water level to rise rather than fall?

Having seen a similar issue on r2r, is it possible this is caused by something effecting flow through the gate valve?

Your drain line looks like it’s working fine. It looks like it’s wide open Considering how low the water level is.

This tells me perhaps your return pump or line has an issue and isn’t able to keep up with the flow on the drain.

check your pump and look for blockages. Clean the return pump. Check return line.

I had a problem with having to open the drain a bit at a time for a few weeks. seems I had a snail in that was blocking the drain and when it passed through it took a number of turns to bring up the water level.

Thanks for the replies, really appreciated.

Whilst noisey it doesn't seem to be causing any major issues at the moment.

I'll turn the return pump off tomorrow, give it a scrub and check the return line and take it from there.

If it still occurs ill open the gate valve for a look to see if there are any snails taking refuge where they shouldn't.

Will post results tomorrow
