Reefer 450 water level wont go down????

Hey everyone,
I did some changing to my aquascape and added a bunch of rock. The water level went up so i let the amount in the sump go down a bit, yet the tank is still too full in the display. Any idea how to remedy this situation? It is pushing up onto the lid and making me super nervous.

Check your overflow box height? Maybe you accidentally changed it while working in there. If not then turn off the return pump for like 5 seconds to let it go down and then it could readjust on its own

What do you mean by overflow box height? The water level?

The thing that lets water spill over down into the sump with the slits in it is called the overflow. Most of them are adjustable but I think your tank is an all in one thingie so I don't know if it is?

open the valve under the tank, in the stand, the valve allows you to adjust your water height, move it very slowly and wait for 5 min for the water to equalize before moving it again. I would say you need to open it more.

Opened it so level went down in chamber but display volume hasn't gone down

If opening the valve doesn't help, turn down the flow on the return or remove some water from the display.

Adjusted valve and water moved down into sump. Now need to remove water manually and find a happy medium. Appreciate help and hope this fixes itself.

Definitely check this. is it possible something is restricting the overflow pipes to the sump?

It's a problem if you can remove water from your DT, while the return pump is still running, and it change the water level in the DT. That indicates that your drain and return are not in sync. No matter where you take water or add water, only the water level in your sump should change.

That's why I asked you if the water level in your overflow has gone up or down... which would indicate that you need to restrict, or open, your drain line... or unclog it.

Likely overflowing in the emergency drain. I have a Red Sea reefer and I have my return water level much higher than op.

If you added a bunch of rock, but didnt remove any water, its likely that you just have too much water in the tank. I have the water in the tank hitting my mesh screen, but its a result of the wavemakers being high in the tank.

A quick check would be to turn off the return pump and see how full your sump gets. Bail out a bit of water if you have too much in there. Might be worth it to check the drains as well for clogs.

More than likely it's water displacement from the added rock. You could either remove water or move rock out and see if it stabilizes. The red seas are pretty good about adjusting. So my guess would be when you added all that rock you needed less water. Did you take out water after adding the rock? If not that's 100% it.
