I'm clearly really struggling figuring out my lighting. I'm trying to figure out for my Reefer 750 (essentially 6' x 2' x 2') and I plan on it being a mixed reef. The wife acceptance factor for a fixture is near 0, so arms with LEDs are the option. I think I err towards the Radions A) because of their reputation, B) because all of my pumps are Ecotech too so it helps justify the Reeflink cost. What I am debating is whether 5 XR15s with the diffusers is sufficient. The tank is about to get set up, so I look at it as I still have 1-2 months before I really even need meaningful lighting and therefore have time to ponder. As such, which of these options seems the best bang for the buck?
A) 5 brand new XR15 G4 pros with diffusers and arms: $2675ish though Ebay has been having a ton of 20% sales lately and I can probably weasel that all the way down to $2200 with their coupons
B) 5 brand new XR30 G4 pros with diffusers and arms: $4825, though if same Ebay thing happens, that can probably be $4200ish
C) 5 used (6 months old, look like they are in good condition) XR30 G4 pros with diffusers and arms: $3500, potentially $3400 with ebay thing.
D) Or should I really consider like 4 new AP700s ($3600, potentially down to $3000)

If those were your choices, what would you select? Are the XR30s overkill if it's not a crazy SPS only tank? What about 2-3 XR30s in the middle/over the major aquascapes and then 15s in the remaining 2-3 slots? Ideally I'd like to keep it under $3000, but I'm also a "buy once, cry once" kinda guy.

Thanks so much for the help

Have you thought of doing a T5 hybrid? You could probably do 4 XR15s and the Aquatic Life Hybrid fixture. I've got that with 3 XR15s on a 5ft tank.

I prefer to overkill on stuff. I’d rather be able to turn things down. Once your at max level and it’s not enough you will end up spending more for the right item. Buy once the first time rather than twice. With that if funds are available I’d go with the XR30 route.

I'd go with 6 XR15s, or 3 XR30s. Dealer's choice.

Whatever you pick, you will buy and cry for about 5 years. Please do not think that you will be using these panels for longer than that... while some are still using 4-5+ year old panels, the VAST majority have bought and cried again since.

I would lean towards twice as many 15s so that you can move them apart more for more spread. Shadowing is a real issue with Radions... even with the diffusers. If you want to get hardcore into stuff that can die with poor coverage (mostly acropora), then T5s might be in your future, but you can avoid most of this with careful selection.

For me, mixed reef screams SB Reef Lights or ReefBreeders V2. These can easily handle a mixed reef and cover better.
