It's a long haul getting there, but honestly I think it's the best job in the world and wouldn't do anything else. We can’t all be Marine Biologists or Oceanographers, our lives take us on different paths sometimes. I’m a Journeyman Millwright of 20 years, basically an industrial mechanic. My super power is the ability to look at mechanical things that fail or need servicing, and figure out how to do so.

This ability and training allows me to diagnose and rectify many mechanical issues with reef tanks. I am also conditioned to perform regular maintenance routines on my tanks as well.

So my question to you is, what is YOUR profession, and how does it help you with reefing? :thinking-face:

I’ve worked for a locally owned pet/fish store for the last 2.5+ years running the saltwater section alone. Have learned everything I know about saltwater while working here, much of which is thanks to this site! In the future I plan to attempt breeding multiple different saltwater species that either are uncommonly bred, or have yet to be captive bred in general.

I have also been building a portfolio for tattooing, and writing a book for the last 5-8 years.

Actually I’m sort of an anti influencer. I don’t have any industry connections or market any products. I just make yt videos to share my reefing as a hobbyist.

Lol! I don’t know about that either. Just a guy with tanks in the basement like a lot of other Reefers. I just like to share with and participate in the Reefing community.

Well you don't give yourself enough credit.

You don't have to be an influncer to be someone that people love and appreciate. You don't have to be an influencer to be a great guy. You don't have to be an influncer to have reefing knowledge that you love to share with others. You don't have to be an influncer to make an impact on this community.

You may not be an influncer of products but you influnce and inspire others to be better reefers.

I get paid to go to peoples' homes and stab them and pump them full of drug.
Wait... I'm a Certified Registered Nurse of Infusion and work in home infusion.
I'm currently helping write new Standards of Practice in Home Infusion for the company I work for.
 
After eight years working in ocean conservation nonprofits I became a stay at home dad, as well as an author! Definitely a major upgrade to my QOL having playground time instead of staff meetings (to say nothing of getting to cuddle with my toddler and watch our tank together!)

Not sure If I answered this thread before or not, But here it is anyway. I am currently employed at a car manufacturing plant in Georgia, I am an equipment maintenance technician. Was a repair technician for General Motors for the 22 years prior to the 15 I am currently on now at this plant. I have about 3 years to go to retire at 62. All set up to retire barring asteroid or nuclear strike.
 
Linux engineer, most people don't even know what Linux is. Core of the job is building and problem solving. Insert all the dark theme and command line prompt memes here lol

Skills help in reefing, but I also enjoy the challenges of this hobby. My maintenance is quick and scheduled and. I don't need pretty GUIs to get by :face-with-hand-over-mouth:Ahh and it's relaxing cracking a beer and watching the fish swim around the coral :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
