Reefing in a highrise

So I live on the 11th floor of my building and I was wondering who else is reefing in a high rise and how you manage. I'm curious to see what problems you might have run into and how you solved them. Any tips or experiences are welcome!

I've had my tank set up for 10 months and I'm currently running a 50g and upgrading to a 65g plus sump.

I do everything via a 5 gallon bucket. Having premixed saltwater on hand is not possible. Saltwater from a water change goes down the tub drain. I stopped running Kalk because I didn't know how to safely dispose of it. QT setup is difficult with the limited space and lack of premade water.

I had a reef on the 3rd floor of an apartment and the best advice I can give you is to get an RO/DI system if you do not have one already. It made reefing so much easier instead of lugging 5 gallon containers up 3 flights of stairs.

Having no pre-made saltwater is no biggie....takes 5 minutes to mix a bucket and have it ready for use.

Having no RODI reserve on hand would make me nuts.

You could actually dose all the milky leftovers from kalkwasser...no need to throw it away.

Worth pointing out (though not the same thing) that your municipal water provider almost surely uses tons of kalkwasser to treat your tapwater already.

Not the same thing because what you have leftover after making clear kalkwasser is more or less non-reactive.

Throw it in the garbage, or on your potted plants, scatter it on the lawn or run it down the drain. (Not too much kalk on the plants...it's less-non-reactive there.)

I would worry more - if you want to worry - about the volumes of saltwater that go down the drain during water changes.

A water delivery service is another option to installing an RODI filter. An RODI filter is cheaper than anything in the long run, but nothing's easier than having water delivered. (Yes, they deliver distilled.)

I do have an RODI which I hookup to my sink. But unfortunately no way to store any significant amount of RODI.

Is saltwater down the drain something I need to worry about?
