From time to time I hear people drop names of reefers that sound very interesting, but I have no idea who the heck they are or what they did. So let's put an end to this and get a record of as many as possible.

To pass down the stories and history of our kind, post:

- The name that someone who did something in reefing history went/goes by
- A short description of them or the thing they were known for (If they went by a username just say "So and so forum username")
- If possible a link to whatever it was

Ex: Herbie (Reef Central Username); Created, and made a guide for the popular Herbie full siphon drain. (NEW plumbing method for an ULTRA QUIET REEF TANK!!!! LONG !!!! - Reef Central Online Community)

It's nothing official, just a fun way to learn more about the history of the hobby.

I'd like to hear more about Melev. He's supposedly a legend!

Look up Sanjay Joshi, Mike Paletta, Julian Sprung to name a few.

Lots of good youtube videos out there.
Sprung's refugium was a big inspiration to my own display refugium that I started recently.

Now if you are talking "quasi" forum celebrities, you can look up BeanAnimal who has quite the following for his failsafe overflow system.

Bob Goeman writer of several books. Saltwater Corner .com He has his latest book is online that you can read for free. Lots of great info.

I would say Joe Gargas as he is an expert on water Quality, and I have been to several of his classes he taught at Shedd Aquarium he wrote a book on water quality and has several patents he is real big in the freshwater community but the water quality carries over to the reef community, here is a link to his web page: Aqua Research Center

I’m slightly bias because I’m a chemist……Dr. Randy Holmes Farley has opened my eyes to the chemistry that occurs with your tank.

OK, I’m totally bias!

Anthony Calfo (Reef Invertabrates) and Eric Borneman (Corals Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History).
Both authors have great insight into the hobby.

Dr Ron Shimek for his invert and worm knowledge
