Hey Reefers! One of the nice things about online reefing communities is that you get to choose your level of participation and visibility. Some people prefer to remain anonymous, and some don't mind if people know who they are. How about you?

*Edited to clarify this question only pertains to being anonymous in online reefing communities, and not social media in general.

Hey Reefers! One of the nice things about online communities is that you get to choose your level of participation and visibility. I myself am an open book about my reefing, and who I am (I have a channel that explains both).

But I've noticed that some reefing industry experts prefer to be anonymous as well as regular Reefers. How about you?

I tend to be more on the anonymous side. There are parts of my life that could get me labeled as something I'd rather not be labeled as. Usually, when trying to get along in a group atmosphere like this I let out as little as possible about my views and activities outside of reefing. It's not that I'm ashamed or think what I'm doing is somehow bad, it's just this place is about reefing and I don't wanna get away from that. With all the stuff we have to deal with in life, it's nice to have a place that's fun. I look forward to coming here and perusing the forums every morning. It's my zen time before the day starts.

It's easy for me to be transparent because I am a nobody in reefing. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
There's no pressure for me to always try to look a certain way. But I also have a cautious confidence in my reefing decisions, yet open to suggestions as well.

My favorite part of reefing is meeting Reefers and seeing how their tanks interact with their lives. I know many Reefers in my area, and they are all part of different societal "labels". But to me, we are all part of the same club. I see the common passion we all share, and value their friendship.

Reefing: Open
Personal life: Close

I like the sharing aspect of this hobby. Getting to see what people are up to, how they reef, and get constructive criticism on what I do is what makes the hobby fun.

Social media can get dangerous so I like to keep a lot of my personal life private unless they become one of my good friends ( which I have found in this community).
