Ok so after arguing with at&t for a couple hours I have learned I no longer can use dsl internet service at my address.

I had dsl a couple years ago and my next door neighbor still has dsl but att is phasing out dsl and only offering uverse and uverse isnt available at my address. The only other option is pay out the rear for hughes net and thats not gonna happen

So my question is I have a verizon wifi hotspot that I normally use at home. Is it possible to connect the net module for a reefkeeper to the wifi hotspot somehow??

Im not very up to date with computers and whatnot anymore but im thinking maybe there is some type of wireless router that I can connect to the wifi and then hook to the net module... true??

I see people talking about using a old router but can it be used to connect to a hotspot or only another router

Kevin,

The Hot Spot is basically a Wireless Gateway/router that connects to the cellular system instead of your DSL (in simple terms) think of it as a tiny tiny router that has no plug in ports.

There are two ways you can do this.
1. a Wifi gaming adapter that will connect to the hotspot and then transfer that IP address to the RKE.
----- in this scenario, just follow the instuctions that came with the adapter and program it to the hotspot wifi signal. then plug it into your net module. you will need to do port forwarding in the hotspot so you can access from the outside world.
2. A wireless router with DD-WRT installed and it set into Wireless Bridge mode.
---- in this scenario, you must install DD-WRT firmware on your router. Kevan @ToXIc has a very good well written article on this in his signature. I actually just did this on an old WAP54G

Ok lost me at port forwarding.... its just a Verizon hotspot.... I read kevans article and am planning on buying a used router off of amazon for like $5

Lol still confused... I just want to be able to use the reefkeeper app on my phone and be able to keep graphs of everything..... as it stands now I have to keep my laptop plugged into the rke to record graphs

I cant just somehow tell the router what my wifi name and password is so itll connect then plug the net module up and then the net module will be online? My knowledge on this stuff is obsolete..... I still remember the phone number for aol to connect lol
