Yup, one of our sponsors. @ReefLEDLights
I'm a big fan of the DIY and consider myself decently knowledgeable about LED spectrum, layouts...etc. Dealing with Bill at Reef LED Lights has been an experience like none other. I had never heard of these guys before moving to R2R but noticed his interaction in the LED forum. I scoped out their website and was intrigued.
Last week we had some bad storms roll through Po-Dunk which cause a brown out, killing a few of the LEDs in my DIY LED system. It was at this point I realized, I did not have a backup. I had been contemplating getting a few AI 26s to go with my current LEDs and this was the perfect opportunity. I went ahead and ordered those and a Director from BRS and that will be a different feedback thread.
At the same time I decided to change the layout on my custom LEDs as the "understanding" of LEDs is a bit better then when I built mine. I started by probing Bill here on R2R with a few questions I had. His knowledge is top notch and exactly what you would expect from a vendor selling a specialty item.
The heatsinks I currently have are drilled and tapped so I needed to see if their stars/solderless mounts would work with what I have. I decided to order pieces to redo my sump lighting first.
Small order, 14 LEDs and their respective components. Total with shipping was well under $100. Here's the kicker though, I goofed my order. I forgot to include a piece I was going to need to mount my new Optics properly. So how does the staff at ReefLEDLights handle this? They didn't call me and try to charge me the $5-8 for the parts I needed. They didn't just package the order and send it, after all I ordered it, my fault right?
No, they took the time, looked through what I ordered, realized I would need something additional and added it to my box. I ordered Friday and had all my stuff by noon Monday. When I opened the box I found a bag with some pieces in it marked "No Charge". I was confused, so I went to the site to see what they were sending me and realized I had forgotten to order these when I placed my order. And here this vendor goes and actually corrects it for me. WHO DOES THAT?
I did send Bill a PM and thank him profusely as he saved me not only the cost of the parts, but also the cost of shipping and additional delay in this part of my project. At the same time, he showed me that his company truly believes in customer service and I will be a customer for life.
New stars fit great, optics are sharp, had to run to the hardware store as my heatsinks are drilled/tapped with M3 screws, but I can not complain. Looking forward to ordering the upgrade on my display tank in the next two weeks. Thanks again Bill!
