I ordered a new Gold Dart hybrid that was listed as having a Baldor motor. I just got it in and it was not a Baldor motor. I looked up the info tag on the motor and its some Chinese brand called AOER which you can buy for $40.

What gives, anyone know when they switched? Not too happy and will be looking to return it.

Back when I used ReeFlo pumps, the owner was pretty easy to talk to. Have you tried asking them about the change?

I have two of them, the newest being 2 years old and they all have Baldor. I'd send it back if it came with a Chinese brand motor

Yeah I sent Reeflo an email but haven’t heard back yet. Based on some of the for sale pumps I’ve seen listed it looks like they changed a little over a year ago.

The seller AquaCave called me back and said yeah Reeflo stopped using Baldor pumps about a year ago and they had missed updating their site.

Their site has now been scrubbed clean of the Baldor listing and pictures.

Good job by you!

Isn't sad when we have to tell websites they are out of date?

Hey guys, didn't know baldor was making motors for aquarium pumps (cool) but we use them in the cnc world. Baldor was bought by a company known as ABB which cut alot of products. It's possible they just don't produce that motor any more. Alot of stuff was temporarily unavailable as ABB wanted to use their own designs and not Baldor. Hope this helps a bit. Sucks the mfg couldn't be open about it.

ABB bought Baldor in 2011, they have been producing this motor for decades before and years since 2011. It is a generic sized AC motor that is not aquarium specific.

What is really sad is to see Reeflo cheapen the quality of their product to increase margins.

To be fair, it is possible that the availability of Baldor motors are limited due to the Covid situation, as a manufacturer myself, I have encountered this on many levels.

AquaCave said the US plant making the Baldor motors was shut down and that is when Reeflo sourced their motors from China.

Another interesting tidbit, the Reeflo Gold Dart and standard Dart have the exact same motor. One is painted gold and comes with a 5 year warranty and one is black and comes with a 3 year warranty.

Other than that it’s the exact same motor in both.
