So the 70 model serves as your return also? I understand what you're saying, but I think it's only a 70 watt difference according to specs.
Yes, salt creep will be what gives it away. It can be ignored for a long time before you get around to replacing the seal but neglect will cause the shaft to eventually corrode. I've never had a reeflo fail on me.
Would you consider panworld? I've had mine for over 4 years without issues. Great pump, never had any issues with it.
Yea, about 72 or so. I think I was thinking of the Pan World 250 PS vs the 200PS, huge difference in draw there for the extra flow. Get what you need, but I am very glad to have the Iwaki 70.
Here is my 465 BB SPS tank the Iwaki powers. I have six Vortech MP60s for in-tank flow.

I uderstand the concerns with the leaking seals and infact expect to need to replace mine. I've helped replace a set at my buddies shop and for me it was no big deal. That's just me!!!!!! I prefer the quiet operation and lower cost of running if I need to replace the seals every few years I'm good with that. I've never heard of catastrophic failure either using reeflo. I think it boils down to what your willing to deal with. What brothers some folks isn't a big deal to others. I think all the pumps talked about here will do a fine job in your system.
I get what you're saying about the maintenance not being a big deal to you. I hope you understand this isn't an attack on you by any means. I'm trying to make a decision between two brands and want feedback on both sides of the fence. If I was to purchase a reeflo pump, I think I'd run it from my garage with two ball valves and unions for quick disconnect in the case of a leak. I think I'd also purchase the carbide seal in the beginning to see if that prevents any leaks from the beginning.
I'd really like to hear from reeflo owners who have had theirs running for several years with/without issues. It seems all the great reviews are within short term experience.
The part for the hammerhead was "US Seal PS-1905" retailing around $40. I went on sun play.com and saw one for the other shaft size retailing around the same, but it could be a small gamble since it hasn't been confirmed that it fits as well as the other.
On the other forum, someone kept complaining about there pump leaking every few months until they bought this seal.
Wow, your system is amazing! That makes me rethink the 100 model if you're running yours with a 70.
Does a chiller run off of it too?
Thank you. I do not run a chiller on this tank. It is located in my basement, and the equipment is behind the tank in an unfinished/unheated area, which stays a little cooler anyways, and I have a fan programmed to come on and blow across my sump if the temperature rises too high. I am running 4x 400 watt Radiums and 6x 110 watt VHO Super Actinics.
The Iwaki is hooked up to a 1.5" opening in the sump, and it outputs to 1.5" plumbing. Basically a straight shot to a Tee, then divided into two 1.25" returns, one on each back corner of the tank. There is also a 3/4" side tee just up from the Iwaki output that I have plumbed to a manifold. this runs two media reactors. I also have a calcium reactor and a sulfur denitrator, which I run with Masterflex peristaltic pumps.

Two 4"x20" media reactors run off the 70.

My Iwakis are quiet, btw. I don't know why they have a rep of being noisy.
I run a Reeflo - GOLD SERIES Barracuda hybrid my sump is in the basement - it has tons of pressure - I also run a frag tank, fuge and 2 reactors with it and have enough pressure to add another tank if I wanted to. I can not speak to Iwaki but I am very pleased with this pump.
Iwaki with Japanese motor, hands down over Reeflo
