During the first month my Reefmat was going through 2-3 feet a day. Now it’s going through 2 inches. What gives?

2 inches seems like a small amount. I'm going through 20 inches a day with my reefmat 500 and I only have 2 corals in my 120 and no fish. I have been trying to clean out hair algae though so maybe that's using more mat.

So I own 4:
the smallest (newest model) Reefer 170 = 1/2” daily
the 500 model on a Reefer 300 = 1/2” daily
the 1200 on a Reefer 450 = 30” daily
the 1200 on a Reefer 650 = 64” daily

I double checked to make sure the mat is dispensing daily and it checks out; some tanks might simply run a lil “lean” others (esp w/urchins) run a lil dirty

You lucky duck. I have a 500 in my reefer 300 and am averaging 30+ inches daily. I suspect feeding 4-5 times a day, blowing rocks off daily and running bare bottom with 6 power heads may cause a little extra down the over flow lol.

Thanks all for the responses. It went through 8.5 inches yesterday randomly and today it’s back to 1.5. I feed a couple of times a day and there’s nori always in the tank for free feeding. Water conditions are as close to ideal as they get and my skimmer is working beautifully. I guess I’ve reached some form of stability? Except I think I just saw some spots on my fox face and one of my tangs so I’m gearing up to hook up my UV to my tank.

I just ordered a 55 watt Lifeguard UV, what flow rate do you use?

Mine is a 36 Watt for a 200 gallon. The recommended speed is 1-2 tank volumes per hour to make sure the parasites are going through it and being exposed for enough time to the light to be damaged. I am also going to add a diatom filter later today. Pretty annoyed since I quarantine all my fish. Hoping the UV helps us both!
