Reefmat 500 fast roll usage

I have a ReefMat 500 on a Reefer 425 (90ish gallons). My return flow is about 400 gph (Neptune flow meter). I’m using an avast marine plank auto feeder and have 12 fish. My flow in the display is pretty high for an SPS dominated system.

I’m burning through filter rolls on this thing. They used to last about a month but now I’m only getting about 10-14 days on them. I’m not using the filter basket. I did add a couple fish but nothing crazy.

I just picked up a ReefMat 1200 and while it fits, it’s too big. Anyone have any suggestions to make these rolls last a little longer?
I was having the same problem a few months ago. I fixed that by changing the mat advance length. Maybe give that a try and see if it helps.

Water level does play a big part in it. The lower the water level, the long it should last. Also good plays a big roll too I think. I run about 700gph into my reefmat1200 and when using carbon dosing (directly into the rm1200) along with nori, frozen, it last about a week less than just using pellets.

If you want to save money on rolls I use recon filters.com. Just go To the website and email they. For the Reefmat 1200 I got 6.7” 50 yard rolls. I sell the 2x1 1/2 adapters to make the rolls work. The rolls are around $10 ea. I sell the adapters for $20 shipped, one time purchase. If you want the adapters email me at [email protected] or PM me here.

I purchased from you a few months ago. They work great

+1 on recon filters. You can get a more coarse filter and they’re half the price. Switched over and run 50-60” per day instead of half a roll. Unfortunately reefmat won’t tie flow parameters to their equipment so a 100 gal SPS tank probably a lot different than a 100 gal LPS.

I think I got my filters from precision converting. They charged 10 dollars a roll and are longer than Red seas. They have 50 and 80 microns and I’ve been getting about 6 weeks per roll since the swap

I don’t think the Red Sea has a bypass port unfortunately. I can turn down the flow rate but I have my UV plumbed into the return and it’s ideally supposed to be at 470 gph for max efficacy. I guess I’d rather have less maintenance though so I’ll give it a shot.
