Hey fellow reefers,

Looking to automate filter sock situation by replacing with a roller. I currently own a G1 Reefer 170. Wondering if anyone has installed either the Reefmat 500 or Aquamax roller on this particular setup. Any issues / disadvantages to one over the other? Aqua max is appealing as it does not require any sump mods and is less expensive. Downside is that it does not have the email alerts and build quality might not be as solid. Thank you!

Just read that the rolls Red Sea uses are metric widths, have no direct replacements and are $42.
Whereas others use standard measurements and there are places other than the mfg. to buy roll replacements. There is a thread in this section about it.

I have been using the 500 model for a few months now since they came out. The replacement rolls are 14.99 if buying singles, 10% off buying 3 or more, 20% off buying 10 or more on saltwateraquariums.com.
The app has an option to swap to non metric measurements (inches, etc..) the rolls are also measured in feet (92ft) in the US. I think you heard wrong :grimacing-face:

That was me posting up, it's about the red sea's roller width. It's wider than everyone else....

The aquamaxx is a copy of the Bubble magus roller, same everything.

More surface area to collect junk if anything, I don't see this being a drawback unless you just dont want to buy the rolls from red sea brand

Now you two can get together on where to buy replacement rolls.

I don’t know about the aquamax as I’ve never used it but I can say the reefmat is worth every penny I’m so glad I ditched socks for it. My only complaint is the size it’s BiG

And I spend approx 3-5 dollars a month per tank. My rolls last a bit (8-12 weeks) unlike most with the red sea.
I spend more on coffee than that in a week :grinning-face-with-sweat: Props to you for cutting back your costs - like I mentioned in my last reply, the $15 a month is trivial to me, but I understand that is not for all.

Same for me as well (I travel a lot for work and buy a LOT of Starbucks, my app reloads will make most cry) but the price for paper on a roll from red sea is stupid.
