Hi all just installed a Reefmat 500 and was wondering what everyone is using for a roller advance speed.

I use the default. It honest'y doesn't matter much, since as soon as the water triggers the sensor it's going to advance - so you either get more or less of a delay between the whirs.

I was under assumption that sets how much fleece in inches you want to advance each time
.

I just got mine yesterday and installed. IM still cycling my tank so I dont expect any movement anytime soon. That said I have it set to auto. When the water level inside rises it will move it accordingly. Set it and forget it.

You're correct - and it does. But in the end, I tracked it over a few weeks and didn't notice any real difference. The main thing that you notice is that the ReefMat activates less frequently with a higher fleece setting - but the usage remains basically the same overall.

how is your water level inside the reefmat? Mine is about 1 inch from the sensor, which is within the recommended distance from Red sea, but dang it makes me nervous lol. Cutting back the flow valve doesnt help much the water level just seems to want to sit there no matter what. Removing the media basket didnt help any either.

If I leave the advance setting at the default the water sits about the same as yours and when the fleece advances it drops down to around 3 inches or so. If I advance the fleece setting to 1.8-2.0 the water drops to alittle above the inlet and takes alot longer to advance again because of the cleaner about of fleece. My average inches per day seem about the same but I have left it at the 1.8-2.0 because I don't have to hear it advance as often since I sit right near the tank watching TV.

Thanks for the info. I let mine run alittle more fleece each time because it takes longer to run again and I don't have to listen to the advancement while watching the tube.LOL

Started at default and worked down to lowest preset and definitely notice a much darker used fleece. I just changed a roll used at the second lowest setting and it lasted 48 days.

That was with several tank cleanings where it uses triple the fleece. This new roll is much dirtier looking at the lowest setting. Reefer 250 heavy in heavy out feeding.

Decided to try the lowest setting and see how it goes this is my first roll and is only 22ft into it.

That's not too bad. I was hoping to get about a day per gallon here but we shall see when I get around to installing it.

I just upgraded to the ReefMat 1200 and already it's using noticeable less fleece (and quieter).

When you install a new roll you will probably need to adjust the valve on the return due to less restriction till the fleece is dirty through the body.
