Just as the title says, curious on how long your rolls are lasting. I have my ReefMat 500 on our 90-gallon tank. Seems we're changing rolls every 2 weeks currently... I was thinking they'd last 5 weeks at least from what I had read. So now I'm just curious if anyone else uses rolls this fast or is it we just have a very dirty tank? I don't think it's that, tank is pretty clean imo

Here's our reefmat log...

That's what we have ours set to currently. Had it set to 1" or whatever and thought that was maybe causing it. Nope, the change didn't make a difference, still about 2 weeks.
I use to go through a roll in 2-3 weeks, finally slowed my return down and now it's lasting a lot longer
went from 60-80 inch a day now down to 30 inch

mine, suddenly, moved from a roll every 30 days to one every 6 months. is using 2cm every day. very strange

Do not make my stupid mistake! I replaced the roll on the Red Sea roller mat, took out the lower basket, and instead of feeding the new fleece under the rollers of the basket (which pull out) I replaced the fleece under the whole basket, causing a complete slow down to 1 to 2 cm a day. I too have lowered the return pump speed and am using 14-15 cm a day, so the roll will last 6 months or so. Maybe I should now feed more, dirty up the tank a little.

Did you mistakenly replace the lower basket on top of the fleece, so jamming it? The Red Sea fleece must go under the rollers in the basket, not under the whole basket.

Can you show a photo of your sump with fleece roller? I suspect your roller might hang too low.

Is the used fleece roll dirty? Or pretty clean?

Edit: I use mine about 3~4 months per roll. Heavy feeding as I have NPS and way too many fish.

i think i've found the issue. i don't have the bottom grid mounted because i've lost it

can someone take some exact measures so that i could try to design one and print?

We're about 40" a day. About 6 weeks ago we dropped to like 6" a day, was insane. No idea why. I was wondering if an update got pushed and it changed on the amount or something. I couldn't figure it out. Now it's back to normal.

My rolls alst about 40-45 days - 200 gallon total setup, high flow return. I have tested several differing advance lengths so that I could squash the opinion that advance length plays a MAJOR roll in how long they last - I have found, as I suspected, it makes only a MINOR difference. If you think about it - the advance length being short merely means your motor will run more often. If it is long (say 3"+) it runs less frequently. I have had it on lowest setting - lasted ~40 days. Currently set on 3.5" and due to expire any day now - ~40 days. Kind of like when you add a new roll and that WHOLE length of filter is clean - mine doesn't advance sometimes for nearly 6 hours. So next advance is 3.5" - next advance is quite some time - maybe an hour or so? If you have it set to advance a very small amount, then ONLY a very small amount is clean, thus another advance will happen sooner rather than later.
Edit - my daily average is currently 36"/day.

my roller uses 64"/day on a 2oog system , ive reduced the flow running through it , I've raised the unit higher in the sump, which should give a higher head pressure above the mat. The unit has been running for six months now so it should be settled in. I dose carbon. prior to dosing a carbon I was running an X filter roller mat , I was getting 30"/day. Its a pity we can't set the time of the auto advance ie advance x amount every 4hrs or only advance during the day.. Im going to set up a timer that will turn the power supply off to the unit during the night. this theoretically 1/2 my usage if its only operating 12hrs a day. I'll let you know how I go.
