getting ready to plumb a 240 gallon tank to a Reefmat 1200. I have 3 1” drains and one 1” return. My plan was to do two drains and one emergency.
I have read and been given advice on different ways to plumb this and looking for advice.
1. One return to reefmat and the other and emergency to sump like normal.
2. place one return into each side of the reefmat and the emergency to sump…w ricks and copepods?

thoughts. Thank you for your time.

If you have the extra parts, you can plumb both the main and secondary to the reefmat and have the emergency to the drain like normal.
Otherwise theres no issues with just the main to the reefmat and have the secondary + emergency go to the sump

The only down side to having the secondary drain into the sump is that you will still accumulate detritus in the sump. I plan on getting the 1200 as well and will be plumbing both my primary and secondary into it.

It seems finding the parts issue. Might just do one and convert when parts come?

Update. Today I discovered that a schedule 80 union had a flat part that works in the reefmat connection and allows you to go to hard pipe. I was looking for a quick bend so I could pipe both sides in a trigger systems cr44. Love this sump.
More to do tomorrow. Lol

What size union did you use to connect to the opposite side?

I have a similar size tank and Bashsea sump, I installed mine on the main drain only as I will still use a sock as that is where I drain the output of my gfo reactor too. Couldn’t be happier with the easy install.

@gontheroad Brilliant find about the schedule 80 union!

can you clarify a few questions?
1. Did you use a 90 street elbow into the union at the Reefmat?
2. The hose coming out the white elbow: is it just friction fitted in there or glued?
3. I think my kit only included one Red Sea Reefmat hose to 1 inch plumbing adapter. What did you use to connect the other side to your plumbing? I can see you used one in the picture but what about the other side?
4. Do you find any interference in the tying of your drains with them both running into the Reefmat?

Going to install the 1200 when it arrives in a couple days, how did this idea go? I’m currently thinking of just T’ing the two drains together right before the reefmat.

noob here! is this a bad idea "use a 90 street elbow into the union"? or is it better to have a short piece of pipe to connect a regular 90 slip into the union?

Here is what I did that worked

so you have one drain on each side correct? i only saw the picture of the one. how has this performed? issues tuning the drains?

How did you convert the 1.5” drain to 1” of the Reefmag?

I am building a sump and sizing the skimmer, refugium anf return chambers don't have the space to orient the ReefMat so fleece advancement is front to back and elbow off each side. Measured at 1200 today at my LFS and inlet bulkhead to bulkhead dimensions were 9 3/4". Then put the half union, stub and elbow adds about 3" then totalling around 15 3/4" i just can't dedicate that much space. So I was thinking of rotating the ReefMat 90* then using the inlet off the back and tee'ing primary and secondary draind as you suggested. Did you do this? If so, how did it work out? Alternatively I am considering just running the primary into the ReefMat. And BTW, what size drains do you have? And noise issues tee'ing two 1 1/2" into the 1" ReedMat inlet?
