Dear all,

I'm considering to go for a Reefwave 25 for my 50 gallon. I would love it to be the only powerhead so to say, is that realistic?

Thank you so much and have a lovely Saturday!

I like my RW-25, but it's first controller bit the dust in a matter of days.

Red USA did make things right and got me a new controller ASAP.

This one has held up so far.

The unit is very, very quiet and the ReefBeat app has been flawless, and the way to go with the ReefWaves.

From what your scape looks like now, and the corals you have, one ReefWave-25 should do the job just fine.

Thanks so much. Whst settings do you have from anflow perspective? I only have experience with Tunze 6015 so far

KathCH,

In the app, I settled in the Random flow mode, then adjusted all the settings to what my reef likes.
Saved to a new profile name.

In Random you set the max speed forward and back, then it varies the flow during the duration set time.

Pushing 70% forward for four minutes then 100% on back flow for 2 min.
Don't think your max settings would be that high on your 50.

So, during that 4 min and 2 min rotation the flow changes speeds and never goes above those max settings.

You can see the speed changes on the controller even in the app mode, and your corals will sway different as well, as the ReefWave alternates.

Good luck on your decision.

You should be good with just that one but might want another small powerhead to just give some randomness against it. I have a RS 170 and it provides enough flow by itself, but maybe due to my placement of the unit, the rock work and shape of my tank, one side is calmer than the other all the time. So I just ordered a jebao ow-10 to fill in just a little on the other side with more randomness.

Also be aware the reefwave 25 controller has some issues connecting to wifi routers depending on obscure features of the router. Mine was a pain to set up took two days of debugging with 2 wifi APs, I could not initialize the pump into the app using one AP and had to turn it off and set up on my second AP, probably due to QoS settings on the first AP. Once set up it works fine on both routers, but that initial setup was a pain.

Hi, i have a mini reef 160 (3ft)
I use a reefwave 25, its plenty powerful most the time it runs on Random 40% then twice a day its on Uniform 70% alternate ( once in morning, once evening)
