I'm going to replace and old AC powerhead in my 350 gallon tank (72Lx36Wx30H). I have other Red Sea products, Dose and ReefMat, and I'm pretty happy with them. There is a small advantage in staying on the same platform, but not a big deal. As far as a gyre or propeller pump application I have no real preference. I'm leaning toward the Nero as it costs a little less, but wondering long term which one I'll be happier with?

I don't have a Apex, this is currently a FOWLR tank. I don't see myself adding an APEX, so adding an APEX with an MXM module in the future to control AI products is unlikely.

Any thoughts?

Well i run both Reefwave 25 and Nero 5’s. They both do a wide flow angle. I prefer the Neros as you can fine tune it a bit more than the Reefwaves. Reefwaves are only controlled 10% increments. I would use either or.

But the reefwaves can be mounted more at the top of the tank than the Neros as they will vortex. So you can have a more clean look. I really like the new Maxspect ones.
