I needed to replace my MP40es because they were getting noisy and they're around 12 years old.

One of the things that attracted me to a Gyre was that I could mount it to the overflow close to the surface and have minimal intrusion into the tank. I didn't however want the cord going over the overflow box, so I created a notch in the comb and ran the cord through the overflow. I'm going to order a new comb so I always have the original, in case I change things in the future.

To anyone who considers mounting the 45 to a Red Sea overflow, know that the magnet will fit but you have to remove the silencer, both will not fit. There's zero change in noise by removing it.

Don't know man it seems a bit counter productive, you want debris and such to go down the overflow I feel like puting that pump there is just going to hinder that. Still have the side combs though so might not make to much difference

That ends up being a fairly clean setup from an aesthetic standpoint. How's it for maintenance when you need to remove it?
I haven't had to remove it yet, but all I have to do is pull up the comb and it comes out the same as any other location in the tank.

I'm not sure I understand, the gyre is not preventing water from going down the front of the overflow. I didn't have to make any adjustments to the downpipe valve when I swapped the MP40s out, same flow as always. The gyre is pretty powerful for this size tank, at 70% it's like a washing machine. I've only just put fish in so time will tell, but I don't see any issue, detritus is suspended in the water column and making its way down the overflow as always.

As long as the detritus is making its way down the overflow it just seemed like suspended particles might just get blown back by the current in to the tank instead of making their way in to the overflow if you get what I mean.
