Hey guys, i wanted to run a design idea by yall and get ur opinions on this concept. I have a 15gal display but currently have a biowheel filter in the back. Its large and loud and i feel it doesnt remove enough "stuff" to be worth it. Also having the refug will bump my water volume a bit.

Im pretty new to reefing so this is my 1st attempt at a refeugium, but my display tank has been up and running for about 6 months and i have it stocked with fish to flower nems to acros. Everything is doing great and healthy.

Thanks in advance!!

It's not a bad idea at all. I would recommend having the water flow over the glass divider, not around it. It will help pull bubbles out of the water from the drain system as well as hold the macro algae in place better.

Looks good, what did you use to draw this model?

Welcome to R2R @anemonesaur . We follow each other on Instagram;)

As @Brew12 suggested, let the glass divider run all the way across. Id add 2 glass dividers, both across. 1st will be 2inches from the bottom and the 2nd will be all the way to the bottom. So it can trap and bubbles and you can add some filters as well

Hey @Brew12 !! By across the bottom you mean kind of like this?

Yup, exactly that!
Heres V2. I can run the return pipe across the top side of the refug. And put the return pump at the opposite end (front) after the bubble walls. Which works out since this is easier to do maintenance.

drilling the acrylic not tank? Can you throw in a top view
Yea, i knw doing the holes in glass is ideal, but i have limited space and budget so i figured this was the next best option. There is also the hanging overflow box but i ront really trust it. Ill send some pics as soon as i get home.

Photos not mine but its the exact same tank.

Based on what I understand and just my 0.02 the reliability of the water staying in the tank depends on how good the curing of silicone is and how the joint between the bulkheads and acrylic hold. I’d research more if something like this is already out there.
